Peloton Year in Review Summary Emails Sent To Members; No Peloton Cooldown for 2023

Peloton has shared an annual year in review email with members summarizing their accomplishments from 2023 – and in a somewhat surprising change, they are not bringing back the Peloton “Cooldown” for 2023.

As a refresher, the Cooldown is Peloton’s year in review feature that was rebranded in 2020. It included a video for each member that reviewed key statistics, such as top fitness modalities, most frequent workout time, total number of active days, longest streak, top instructor, badges earned, and more.

Over the past couple of years Peloton has teased that the Cooldown is on the way before its actual launch. However, Peloton has not made any announcements on social media about the Cooldown returning, and on December 13 members began receiving a year in review email. Some members posted inquiries on social media about whether the Cooldown was returning, and Peloton replied with the below comment:

No Cooldown video will be available this year, but you can access your Peloton usage statistics from 2023 in your Year in Review recap email.

This confirms that unlike the past three years, members will not receive a year in review video or personalized webpage that displays all of their statistics. In 2023, the year in review will be limited to an email.

Peloton has separately gone on to confirm to us that the year in review email covers the time period from January 1, 2023 through October 31, 2023. This means that workouts completed from November 1 through the end of 2023 are not incorporated into the metrics and summary.

In addition, the year in review email will not feature instructors who are no longer employed with Peloton, even if their classes remain on the platform. This might lead you to having a different instructor as your most popular for the year than you might otherwise think.

The Peloton year in review summary email subject line is: “[Name], we saw you hustling this year.” The email starts out with an image from Peloton’s 2023 holiday campaign “Work Out Your Way” before providing numerous key statistics, such as total workouts and calories burned. Note that the statistics appear to vary depending on the specific member and which devices they may or may not own. Members who own a hardware device may also see miles traveled.

If you see both miles & kilometers – keep in mind that rowing workouts are recording in meters.

The next portion of the email highlights badges earned, which also contains a link to view the Achievements page of the member profile – which is the same view as you can see at any point during the year by visiting that page.

After that is a new “trophy case” feature, which highlights the member’s “season to shine.” This appears to reveal which season of the year the member was most active in. For example, a member most active in summer received a “poolside powerhouse” trophy. A member most active in winter received a “snowy strength seeker” trophy.

These trophies are designed to be shared via social media.

If the member celebrated a major milestone, such as joining the “Century Club,” it will be highlighted in the next section. Many members reported getting the century club section – even if they joined it for the first time many years ago.

The final section of the email reveals which instructor you trained the most with throughout 2023.

The email closes with an overall update about Peloton’s overall environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) progress:

As we celebrate your achievements, we also want to celebrate how we showed up for the community. Check out Peloton’s progress towards our social and environmental sustainability goals in our 2023 Impact Report.

Note that the sections shown are dependent upon the specific member, so your particular annual review email may not have every section explained in this article.

If you are a member and have not yet received your year in review email, Peloton recommends engaging their chatbot system and selecting the “year in review” reason for support.

What did you think of Peloton’s new annual review format? Are you happy with your stats for 2023?

First year with Peloton. Was looking forward to the cooldown, see all that I’ve done. Maybe share it on social media and see if other peloton ushers were out there in my circle. This email was pretty burning and winter trophy is pretty odd. Big miss by peloton and potentially getting their product out there more.

  • Esther says:

It is sad that peloton is slowly becoming lick every other app. First the change on how stats are displayed such as 7days, 30days and 90days work out and now this. It is disappointing to say the least.

  • Betty says:

I so looked forward to the Cool Down; the email is a great big dud. I kept clicking around in the email hoping it would take me to someplace awesome, bit it did not. Also, the gif from the recent campaign was a bit odd…as others have said, super disappointing and a big miss!

  • Connie says:

It was pretty boring and meaningless. Not what I was hoping for.

  • Galnar says:

The year in review is kinda chintzy compared to the cooldown offering. Disappointed with the 10/31 cutoff. Such a weird thing to cut.

  • Christine Teixeira says:

Very disappointed! How simple it would be for them to continue with the cooldown.
I had to reach out to then to send me an email with stats. It isn’t even a complete year.

  • Sally says:

Very disappointed in this decision. The Cooldown video was awesome. The email is a big letdown. Is saving money driving this decision because I would expect the same algorithms were used to prepare the email? Peloton is becoming less special by the year.

  • Julie Gray says:

I have contacted customer service multiple times and requested this year in review for 2023. Nobody knows what I’m talking about and I’ve yet to receive it. Clearly a training issue with their support staff.
