Limited Edition Branded University of Michigan Peloton Bike+ available for sale for $2,795 ($300 premium)

Peloton has officially made their first branded bike available for sale (starting as a pre-order). A new limited edition University of Michigan Peloton Bike+ (affiliate link) was added to the Peloton website today, listed for $2,795. This is a $300 upcharge over the equivalent, non-branded Bike+ – which costs $2,495.

The existence of this Bike was revealed back in August as part of a partnership with University of Michigan and the announcement of Peloton’s “College Strategy”. With that, members have been able to see this branded Bike+ on the sideline of football games the past few weeks.

However, today Peloton made that same branded University of Michigan Bike+ available for the general public. This is being marketed as a “limited edition” Bike+, so it’s not clear how many will be available for sale, or for how long. Only the Bike+ is available with University of Michigan branding – the original Peloton Bike is not available this way.

For those interest in this new University of Michigan Bike+, you are able to pay in full, or use one of Peloton’s financing options. However, this is not being made available at this time through the Peloton rental program, or through third party retailers like Amazon. It is currently only listed for sale in the US. This is technically listed as a pre-order, with bikes starting to ship in 8-14 weeks.

On the splash page for the University of Michigan partnership, Peloton had stated that “limited edition bikes will be available for purchase before the end of September” – setting up today’s announcement.

Over the last 24 hours, Peloton had teased on social media that this launch was imminent, adding a countdown timer to their Instagram stories for the launch of the bike.

For members who like the idea of branded Peloton bikes, it sounds like more will be on the way in the coming months. Peloton CEO Barry McCarthy shared in the most recent earnings call that other co-branded bikes and colors would be on the way this fall:

“For the last ten years Peloton has been the Henry Ford of stationary bikes. We sold any color bike frame you wanted as long as you wanted black. I’m excited to announce a change in strategy. This quarter we began work to bring a variety of limited edition bike frame colors and graphics to both the consumer and commercial markets, like yesterday’s University of Michigan announcement. Expect to hear more about this exciting initiative this fall.”

This would seem to also include the option for custom colors (without being tied to a University or college) that Peloton had teased on social media this fall as well.
