Peloton promoting watching Oscars on Peloton Entertainment + Robin Arzón Appears in Good Morning America Segment Highlighting Oscar-Worthy Workouts

Peloton is encouraging people to watch the 2024 Oscars ceremony while getting a workout in.

A new popup appearing for members is reminding people that they are able to watch the Oscars, which take place Sunday March 10th, by watching ABC through YouTube TV on Peloton Entertainment.

The full message said:

Take home your next PR or just sweat it out when you tune into The Oscars® on ABC with YouTube TV in the Entertainment tab. When you’re ready to ride, run, or row, select the Entertainment tab on your homescreen, log into Youtube TV, and stream The Oscars® on ABC

YouTube TV became one of Peloton’s “official” streaming partners last December.

In addition, Peloton instructor Robin Arzón recently appeared on Good Morning America in a segment called “Road to the Oscars – Award Winning Workout.”

The segment aired on February 26 and showcased this year’s Oscar-nominated films, and corresponding exercises for each one.

The first featured film was Nyad, and Robin instructed a “swimmer” – a bodyweight movement in the prone position designed to mimic swimming.

Next, they moved onto Barbie, and did Russian Twists with a pink beach ball. This is a common exercise seen in Peloton classes, and works the obliques and deep core. They also performed a calf raise to symbolize Barbie’s heels. They added on with a squat on the toes, targeting stability and the lower body.

The next film was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This brought about the most challenging movement yet: a spider push-up. This requires you to bring your knee to elbow while in a push-up, and can be modified by dropping to the knees.

The final featured film was The Holdovers. Robin grabbed a book in each hand, and did arm circles with them. This exercise targets the shoulders and can be done standing or kneeling.

Robin recommends 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off for each movement, potentially even during the 96th Annual Oscar Awards commercial breaks. You can watch the complete clip from Good Morning America via X (Twitter).

Robin first joined the Good Morning America team as a contributor in December of 2023.

Forcing unskippable advertising to an expensive piece of hardware that costs more per month than a majority of ad-free streaming services is a major misstep.

If you’re referring to them streaming the Oscars and how that may have non skippable ads, it might be out of their hands unfortunately, especially if YouTube TV is their streaming partner. Peloton themselves isn’t streaming the Oscars so they are beholden to whatever YouTube (or any streaming service they partner with) does. They do take ad breaks during the airing of the Oscar’s too, so I’m not sure what they would play in place at those times…

Far be it from me to defend the uptick of all the unskippable ads on all the streaming services increasing or newly appearing though, I hate it too. I just think that in this case it isn’t as egregious as, say, Amazon Prime video introducing ads to their PAID subscriptions!

TL;DR I think (I’m not an expert) that as long as Peloton is not themselves directly being their own streaming service outside of their own content (a massively expensive and capital intensive task in general) and instead has to partner with other, already established streaming services, there will, unfortunately, be ads. :/
