Peloton is launching a new video segment showcasing members. The series is called “Peloton Member Story” and the first edition features Shaunta-Maé Alexander.
In the video Shaunta-Maé explains that she was diagnosed with a neurological condition that left her completely paralyzed from the waist down. She felt extremely down and defeated until she had an “aha” moment.
She states: “I learned that my disability does not disqualify me from my purpose.”
From there, Shaunta-Maé “decided to take her life back.” She started with upper body workouts, and worked her way to the Bike and the Tread. Instructor Tunde Oyeneyin is also featured in the segment, with both video and voiceover from classes.
Throughout the video Shaunta-Maé shares how challenging the experience has been – not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. Eventually she was able to walk, run, lift weights, squat, and do yoga – all things she did not know she was capable of.
The segment includes personal images and video from Shaunta-Maé, such as her training sessions and even completing a race.
The ad closes with Shaunta-Maé reading a quote that she also has tattooed on her arm: “The wind will catch her feet, and you will sail.”
Shaunta-Maé was also recently featured in Peloton’s “Something is Everything” advertisement, which debuted over the 2024 new year holiday.
Peloton has also previously highlighted Shaunta-Maé on social media, when they surprised her at Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) with an opportunity to meet Tunde.
