Auto-Incline Feature for Peloton Tread+ Is Rolling Out

Peloton’s auto-incline feature appears to be rolling out to the Tread+. When auto-incline – which automatically adjusts the Tread’s incline based on the instructor cues – first rolled out in 2022 it was limited to the standard Tread, as the Tread+ was still under U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall.

However, now that the Tread+ is back in retail stores and will be available for purchase in December, auto-incline is becoming available on Tread+ devices.

Note that auto-incline can be enabled or disabled, and is similar to the way the Bike+ can automatically adjust the rider’s resistance to match what the instructor calls out.

Peloton has a dedicated support page for the auto-incline feature that contains additional details, and now explicitly mentions the Tread+.

The page now says “The Peloton auto-incline feature is now available for all Peloton Tread/Tread+ Members!”, whereas previously, it stated it was only “available for all Peloton Tread Members” (leaving off mention of the Tread+).

For those unfamiliar with the auto-incline feature, members will see a lock button next to the incline target metric on their screen. Note that this only applies to on demand classes and is not available for live classes. Members can turn the feature on or off by pressing the lock icon. Turning the feature on will allow you to complete the run within the instructor’s target incline range without having to adjust the incline yourself. In the same way that you can adjust the resistance manually on the Bike+, you can still adjust your Tread incline manually even if you have the auto-incline feature enabled. Your incline will adjust back to the instructor’s cue at their next callout. If the Tread is not moving, the feature will not take effect.

Though not confirmed, auto-incline being rolled out to Tread+ devices suggests that Lanebreak may soon make its way to the Tread+ as well. Lanebreak first launched on the standard Tread this past June, and has an “auto incline hill” feature that is tailored for the running format, and requires the auto-incline functionality. However, at time of publishing, Lanebreak was still not yet available on the Tread+

If you currently own a Peloton Tread+, are you excited to have access to the auto-incline feature?
