The first Peloton On Tour event is taking place this weekend in Los Angeles, California this weekend.
The event started on Thursday with the “Peloton Instructor Experience”, which you can read all about here, and this event as followed by the free group workout at UCLA. The final event was the class tapings that took place Saturday.
On Friday, members had the chance to sign up for “Outdoor Walk & Talks”, which were taking place hourly from 7:00am – 11:00am PT on Friday, July 14, 2023. Thanks to Peloton members @VioletMeyer, @DesiraeRingled, and others for sharing the photos & overview of the event that you see in this article.
Peloton described the Outdoor Walk & Talks as:
Start your day off right with Peloton. You’ve taken an Outdoor Walk on the app, now join us live and in person for a scenic walk led by your favorite instructors. Each experience will begin with a 15-minute warm-up followed by a mile-long walk. You’ll come away refreshed, inspired, and connected.
There will be 4 walks for this experience, with tickets available for each. Each walk will be approximately one hour and will be led by 2 instructors.
Tickets for this cost $60, and members picked their specific hour timeslot. However, you could not choose which instructors you were walking with – you just randomly found that out when you showed up for your timeslot. Around 35 tickets had been sold for each hour.
Each hour block would have two instructors walking with the group. The instructors who attended this event were Kendall Toole, Adrian Williams, Katie Wang, Camila Ramon, and Ben Alldis.
The pairings for the Peloton Outdoor Walk & Talks ended up being:
- 7:00am – Adrian Williams & Camila Ramon
- 8:00am – Kendall Toole & Ben Alldis
- 9:00am – Camila Ramon & Katie Wang
- 10:00am – Kendall Toole & Adrian Williams
Upon arrival at the Peloton Showroom in Santa Monica (which is where the event started), Peloton staff was onhand to check your name against a list of people who bought tickets. Once they found you on the list, you were given a wristband – so they would know who was checked in and part of the event.
Once checked in, you were sent inside the showroom to wait for your session to start.
Then, approximately 10 minute before your session started, your group was brought to a plaza outside the studio and large circle was formed. Finally, the two instructors who were assigned to your group came outside as well and said hello to everyone – they had microphones on so everyone could hear them.
The event started with the instructors leading everyone through some short warmups (jumping jacks, stretches, lunges, etc). After the warmups were completed, members were asked to form two long parallel lines – and then the walk officially started.
Members were led out of the mall where the showroom is, to a jogging path along the beach going along Ocean Boulevard. This path lets you look out over the water and the Santa Monica pier. One of the instructors was at the front of the line, and one was at the back. As the walk was taking place, both instructors tried to work their way through the line, saying hello and chatting with everyone who was walking.
While the instructors were trying to spend roughly the same amount of time with everyone, as can inevitably happen with events like this, a few participants spent longer talking to the instructors than others which meant they ran out of time before they could talk to everyone.
In addition to some members not being able to chat very long (or at all) with instructors due to the group size, other members have said that there were times the instructors were hard to hear when they were trying to talk to the entire group.
Along with the instructors, members were accompanied by a few Peloton staff members as well. One was responsible for carrying along a speaker – for when the instructors needed to talk to the whole group. There was also a camera person with the group – and one of the stops was to take a photo with the whole group in front of the beach.
At the halfway point, there was another stop, and the instructors got the group hyped back up and led everyone through a few calisthenics and stretches.
Once the calisthenics were completed, the instructors turned everyone back around, and the group continued back to the showroom.
As the walk progressed, people reported that the parallel lines began to dissolve as everyone got further into the walk, but the coaches still tried to work their way through the lines to talk to everyone as much as they could.
Finally, once everyone was back at the mall area, the instructors and members headed into the showroom. There, you were given a chance to get a photo with both instructors together against one of the Peloton On Tour photo backdrops. These pictures were taken with members’ personal phones by one of the Peloton staff members (there was no printed Polaroid like one of the booths had during the Peloton instructor Experience on Thursday).
The total time spent walking, from leaving the store to coming back (including the stops) was around 45 minutes total. The distance walked was around 1.25 miles.
Some members reported that both during & after their walk, they had spotted a few of the other instructors who weren’t part of their assigned pairing were walking around – and a few people got an extra chance to meet and talk with them as well.
Like the event on Thursday, members are sent home with some free schwag. For the Outdoor Walk & Talk event, everyone was given a free Peloton-branded fanny pack / running pouch.
In addition, you had the option to purchase the same custom Peloton On Tour Los Angeles apparel that was offered for sale on Thursday. The prices were the same, which were:
- Water Bottle – $35
- Bracelet – $30
- T-Shirt – $48
- Large Tote Bag – $32
