Fix for Peloton Bike Resistance Bug Coming Dec 18; Fix for Peloton Tread Screen Sleep Bug Coming January 2024

An update is available regarding the recent issues affecting Bike and Tread devices. In case you missed it, we shared this past week that following a software update, Bike owners reported issues with resistance on their devices, and Tread owners reported issues with their tablets not turning off.

Update 2The Tread fix should be out by January 10th, 2024.

Update – Peloton pushed out the initial updated on December 19th, but said it won’t be fully deployed to everyone until December 21, 2023. The exact message was “Update – Reports of some V1 Bike metrics being sensitive and overshooting. Fix is currently being deployed and will be fully deployed on December 21st.”

Peloton has now created formal incident reports within the status channel for both problems, and estimated timelines for a potential fix.

For the Bike, Peloton is hoping to be able to address the issue by Monday, December 18. According to the incident report:

Reports of some V1 Bike metrics being sensitive and overshooting. The cause has been identified and we are currently testing out a fix. Target for release of the fix is Monday.

Note that Peloton specifically mentions “V1 Bikes” – however, both original Bike and Bike+ owners have reported this issue over the past few days.

For the Tread, users will unfortunately have to wait until January for a solution, according to Peloton. The incident report states:

Reports of some Tread touchscreens not able to be put to sleep. The cause has been identified and we are testing out a fix. We are targeting a release in early Jan 2024. In the meantime, users may turn off the Tread via the switch on the bottom of the unit as a workaround.

Until Peloton is able to push a software update that would address the issue, they recommend that Members use the switch on the bottom of their devices in the interim.

Tread users have also reported workarounds by pressing and holding the stop button for 5-10 seconds – while others report the screen will turn off automatically on its own eventually (30 minutes to an hour later).

It is also worth noting that Bike owners have reported a similar issue of their touchscreens not fully turning off. For now Peloton has only acknowledged this bug with Treads, but a fix would hopefully address the problem on both hardware devices.

Based on social media comments over the past few days, these issues appear to be far-reaching and affecting many members.
