Report: Peloton Will Not Offer a Trade-In Program for Tread Owners Looking to Upgrade to the Tread+

Peloton will reportedly not offer a trade-in program for Tread owners who are looking to upgrade to the Tread+.

As a refresher, the Tread+ – Peloton’s original treadmill – has not been available for sale since 2021 due to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall. After years of reaffirming that they were working with the CPSC on a fix for the device, Peloton announced the Tread+ will be available for sale during the 2023 holiday season. The device will cost approximately $6,000 – which is roughly $1,500-$2,000 more expensive than when it was last available for sale.

A frequently asked question surrounding the return of the Tread+ has been whether Peloton will offer a trade-in program for customers who own the regular Tread. Peloton recently clarified via social media that there are currently no plans for a Tread trade-in program.

A member posted via the Official Peloton Member Page on Facebook, writing:

I know the tread+ will be available for purchase in the near future, but I’m wondering if they will offer a swap program for the new tread+ and the regular tread. I had the tread+ initially, and prefer that model but returned due to recall.

Peloton replied to the post with the following comment:

We will not be offering trade-in options for the Peloton Tread at this time.

As always, Peloton could potentially change their plans – but for now, there are no plans to offer a trade-in program for members who are looking to upgrade to the Tread+.

When Peloton first debuted the Bike+, they offered a trade-in option for members who had the original Peloton Bike. Those interested were able to give their original Bike back to Peloton and receive a $700 credit towards the Bike+ along with an accessories package that included a workout mat, yoga block, yoga strap, and resistance bands. However, that program was discontinued back in June of 2022 and has not returned.

For those wanting to fully understand the differences between the Tread and the Tread+, we have a comprehensive breakdown available on our site.

Though an exact date has not yet been communicated, Peloton’s latest messaging around the return of the Tread+ indicates the device will be available for presale during the 2023 holiday season, with shipments starting approximately six weeks later. We will continue to share updates about the imminent return of the Tread+ as details emerge.
