Peloton Tread instructor Susie Chan has added another milestone to her ultra-running resume, as she and her team set a new course record at the Badwater Salton Sea ultramarathon this past weekend.
Susie and her two teammates, Emma Harris and Amanda Skinner, raced as team “Put The Kettle On” and crossed the finish line in 22 hours, 21 minutes, and 51 seconds (22:21:51) – setting a new course record in the 3X Women category.
The Badwater Salton Sea is an 81-mile ultramarathon that takes place in Southern California, starting at Salton City (234 feet below sea level) and finishing atop Palomar Mountain at 5,500 feet, with over 9,000 feet of total elevation gain. What makes the race unique is the format. Teams of two or three runners must complete the entire course together, not as a relay, staying within 10 meters of each other the whole way.
Susie shared the news on her Instagram, saying:
“Badwater Salton Sea, came away with a Course Record which we are utterly delighted with. 81 miles through a desert, into the trails and finally up a mountain.”

She also shared more on Facebook:
“You have to run as a team – and not relay, run together no more than 10 metres apart. You are as strong as your weakest runner. (Who was me!) This year I had two incredible women who pushed me to get the best out of my day and we bagged the course record.”
Badwater Salton Sea is part of the Badwater Ultra Cup – a three-race series organized by AdventureCORPS that also includes Badwater Cape Fear (51 miles) in March and the Badwater 135 (135 miles) in July.
Susie has a long history with the Badwater events, having competed in the Badwater 135 back in 2023, which became the subject of the Peloton documentary “Badwater 135” released in January 2024. In that same 2023 season she also became the first European woman to complete the full Badwater Cup, finishing all three events in one year.
This was actually Susie’s second Salton Sea with team “Put The Kettle On” as well. She and Emma Harris ran the race together as a 2X Women team in 2023, finishing in 21:44:00. For 2026, the team grew to three with the addition of Amanda Skinner, moving into the 3X Women category, where they set the course record.
Susie’s résumé of endurance accomplishments now includes multiple Marathon des Sables finishes, a 12-hour treadmill world record, being one of the first women to finish all six World Marathon Majors, and now a Badwater Salton Sea course record. She has written a book about many of her running adventures.
Congrats to Susie and her teammates on the Badwater course record!
