Peloton is launching Heart Rate Zone Workouts for the Peloton Tread. This new feature instructs a workout based on heart rate level, instead of the traditional pace/incline (or power zones or pace targets) Peloton uses. Peloton is featuring some Zone 2 heart rate training as part of this launch (along with some intervals).
The feature launches October 1, 2026 and will be available on all Peloton Tread models. At this time, Peloton says feature is going to be Tread/Tread+ only, although it seems like something Peloton could easily expand to the Bikes & Row down the road, and could be added quickly.
The new Heart Rate Zone Workouts are not traditional instructor-led classes. Instead, members can access them through the Guidance feature while using Just Run or Entertainment. From within the Guidance area, they can choose between different Heart Rate Zone workout options.
That makes it possible to watch Entertainment while still following a structured heart rate workout. This builds on top of the Just Guidance feature launched in 2024 by changing the instruction to be heart rate based instead of speed/incline for the Tread.

The member connects a compatible heart rate monitor, smartwatch, or band, and their current heart rate and target zone appear on screen. The workout then provides guidance based on those zones, including notifications when it is time to transition from one zone to another.
Zones for the heart rate will initially be based off of each member’s maximum heart rate. Members can set it in their profile if they know what it is, or, Peloton will use the common “220 minus your age” formula to set a default maximum. As part of the launch of this new feature, members can also go in and customize the exact range for each heart rate zone through their profile.
Peloton demonstrated the feature by adding Heart Rate Zone Guidance while an entertainment program was playing. With a regular Guidance class before now, you would be following target ranges in the speed & incline areas at the bottom of the screen to follow the structure Peloton was providing.
When using one of the new Heart Rate Zone workout Guidance structures – the Heart Rate section on the left side of the screen contains the class structure. Under your current heart rate, it shows the upcoming efforts and how long they will be – based on a heart rate zone.

Similar to pace target classes, or power zone classes, the current heart rate zone you are supposed to be in is highlighted in the heart rate display, giving another indicator of the effort level you are supposed to be in.
In addition, if you are outside the target heart rate zone, there will be a small popup at the top of the screen telling you to change your effort level to either increase or decrease your heart rate. When starting the workout, the member also has the choice to have audio chimes beep when it is time to change efforts to a new heart rate zone.

This is not Peloton’s first experiment with heart rate-based training. Peloton previously offered dedicated instructor-led Heart Rate Zone classes before discontinuing the format in 2020 as instructors including Christine D’Ercole shifted toward Power Zone training.
More recently, Peloton launched a Zone 2 Training Collection in April 2026. That Collection gathered existing rides, runs, walks, and Rows that could be useful for Zone 2 training.
However, it did not create a new heart-rate-driven workout experience. Members were still responsible for monitoring their own heart rate and deciding whether they were staying in the intended zone.
The new Heart Rate Zone Workouts are different because the member’s actual live heart rate becomes part of the on-screen coaching. Unlike that collection, these heart rate zone workouts are not instructor led – you take them as you watch one of Peloton’s streaming services or do a Just Workout.
The feature works with any compatible connected heart rate source. Heart Rate Zone Workouts are also one of the new features that do not require a movement-tracking camera or new hardware.
Peloton can make a variety of different structures using heart rate zone workouts – two examples that exist now are a “Heart Rate Zone 2” run, as well as a “Heart Rate Zone Intervals.” The Heart Rate Zone 2 option ties into the pushes Peloton has been making into longevity, and their other Zone 2 work mentioned above.
Peloton says the new Heart Rate Zone workouts feature will be available on existing Treads & Tread+ (the Original Series and Cross Training Series) as well as the new Tread Flex, Tread Vision, and Tread+ Vision.
The new Heart Rate Zone workout feature launches October 1.
This comes alongside other new features like Running Analysis, ReRuns, Peloton IQ Pace Targets, a WHOOP Integration, and Sled Mode.
