For those new to Peloton, from time to time Peloton will remove classes from their on-demand library in what are known as Peloton class purges. These are usually unannounced, with no warning of what classes will be removed. A frequent request of members is that Peloton do what Netflix does, and post a list of “Classes Leaving Peloton Soon” to give members a chance to take their favorite class one last time. Unfortunately, this has yet to happen. The last large purge was in February 2021, when 658 rides, or ~7.5% of the cycling library was removed. Prior to that there were also class purges in December 2020, as well as August 2020 class purges.
Sometime yesterday, on August 13th, 2021 (Friday the 13th), Peloton conducted another class purge. Unlike some other purges where the reason for removal seems to be music rights, this purge appears to be centered simply around how old the classes were. This is possibly an effort to ensure an ever increasing production value of classes that are available for members. After the last purge in February, the oldest classes in the library were from September 2018. As of today, almost every single class from before April 1st, 2019 appears to have been removed from the library. Two notable exceptions to this are Robin Arzon’s 11/16/18 Greatest Showman ride, as well as an Emma Lovewell core strength class that is part of the Crush Your Core program. Unfortunately, those who wanted to do Christine D’Ercole’s 5 hour Haleakala Volcano climb series are now missing a class, as Ride #2 from the series was purged.
Given that this class purge seems to have been to remove older classes, many of the newer instructors weren’t impacted by this purge, like they might have been if it was related to music rights. Although the majority of the purge seems to have been getting rid of classes from before April 1st, 2019 – a handful of other classes that were created since then were removed as well, but they were not the focus.
Next, we’ll look at some of the stats for what was removed from the Peloton on-demand library this purge. Please keep in mind all numbers are approximate, and could be +- a few classes.

Would you mind commenting on what this most recent purge did to the proportion of available on demand rides that are 45 minutes or longer?
A lot of us are *not* fans of the shorter rides or stacking rides to replace the longer ones.
They’ve also removed my favourite outdoor walk with Rebecca Kennedy, her 45 minute 80s Fun Walk. I understand the need to purge but a warning from Peloton would be nice.
5′ arm and shoulder stretch with Matty from 10/9/18 – love it cuz it used towel
