Peloton has removed the original Peloton Bike from the rental program in the United States and Canada.
Previously both the original Bike and Bike+ were available as rental options on the Peloton website. However, as of August 1 the original Bike is absent from the page, indicating that it is no longer a rental option for customers, at least for the time being.
Peloton has not made any announcements regarding this change. It is possible that Peloton ran out of inventory for the original Bike in regards to the rental program, or perhaps they determined that only the Bike+ was profitable enough to be the right fit.
This change is confirmed in both the U.S. and Canada, but it is currently unclear whether it is being applied to Germany as well. As of publishing time the German rental website is down, but that could be because Peloton is updating the site to reflect the Bike+ as the only rental option as well.
The Peloton Bike rental program has not yet launched in Australia or Austria.
It is worth noting that when the rental program expanded to the United Kingdom earlier this year, it launched with only the Bike+, suggesting that this change could have been on the way for quite some time.
For those unfamiliar, Peloton’s bike rental program allows members to rent a Bike and bundle the cost of the hardware with the monthly subscription fee. The program first launched in 2022 and underwent a number of changes relatively quickly – first by expanding to additional states, then by expanding to the entire continental U.S. The program then launched in Canada and Germany in 2023.
