Yesterday, news broke that Amazon & Echelon had teamed up to create a “Amazon Prime Bike”, coming in just under $500. This news had caused Peloton stock to dip in pre-market trading yesterday.
Yesterday, people began to notice the listing for the Amazon Prime bike looked identical to the Echelon Connect bike that has been available at Walmart for $500.
Last night, Amazon provided a statement to Bloomberg that this was not a partnership, and they weren’t aware of what Echelon was promoting.
“This bike is not an Amazon product or related to Amazon Prime,” an Amazon spokeswoman wrote in an email late Tuesday. “Echelon does not have a formal partnership with Amazon. We are working with Echelon to clarify this in its communications, stop the sale of the product, and change the product branding.”
The original press release Echelon put out yesterday has been removed, and the Prime bike is no longer listed on Amazon’s site.
