Kendall Toole Donates $3,100 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) after live Peloton Mental Health Awareness Ride

Kendall Toole made a $3,100 donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in honor of every live rider on her recent Mental Health Awareness Ride.

Kendall had previously committed to this donation and encouraged live attendance to the class earlier this week.

She announced during the ride that 3,100 members were present – which is a considerably high number for 9:00pm ET on a Wednesday! She noted this number included both those on the bike, as well as app riders.

Interestingly, there appeared to be an issue with the playlist during the class; not all of the songs from Kendall’s “final” playlist were not included, and some songs from a previous iteration mistakenly snuck in.

Kendall took to Instagram Live following the ride, and made the donation to the AFSP during the livestream. Note that this was a personal donation; not a corporate contribution from Peloton.

However, when making the donation, she found that Peloton was list as a corporate option – so there is a chance Peloton could end up matching her donation.

Kendall also explained the significance of the 988 service during her live stream, which is the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. You can read more information below, according to the AFSP website:

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (although the previous 1-800-273-TALK (8255) number for the Lifeline will continue to function indefinitely). AFSP has worked with Congressional partners, other non-profit coalition members, and mental health agencies to lead the charge for a 3-digit suicide prevention, mental health, and substance use crisis hotline. From advocating for the Lifeline itself to encouraging budget allocations for the Lifeline’s implementation and maintenance, AFSP has been at the forefront of this movement. AFSP supports increases in federal and state funding for the future 988 crisis response system, including the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and its network of independently operated state and local crisis centers. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a leading national organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education, and advocacy. Founded in 1987, AFSP focuses on a range of activities aimed at reducing the incidence of suicide and providing support for those affected by it.

Peloton has taken part in a number of initiatives in honor of Mental Health Awareness month throughout May; including their 20 Million Minutes Challenge, which took place last week and included numerous special two-for-one classes.
