New Peloton Free Mode Running Classes Being Recorded

Peloton appears to be gearing up for the return of free mode – a unique feature exclusive to the Tread+ – with signs pointing to new classes being recorded at Peloton Studios New York (PSNY).

UpdateFree mode classes & features were officially re-added in June.

For those unfamiliar, free mode is a feature particular to the Peloton Tread+ that allows the runner to move the belt without the motor, requiring increased effort and providing an added challenge.

However, free mode has been absent from Peloton programming since the Tread+ was recalled in May 2021. Since then, instructors have not cued the feature in any classes.

In early 2024, signs pointed to free mode eventually returning when Peloton instructor Becs Gentry participated in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) and answered a user question regarding the topic. But there have been no concrete updates; until now.

During a recent recording session at PSNY, the class queue for the Tread studio displayed an “Extra 10: Free Mode Run” with instructor Matty Maggiacomo. While the class has not yet been released, its appearance on the studio schedule signals that Peloton is actively recording and preparing to reintroduce Free Mode classes.

Notably, Peloton appears to be taking a more intentional approach this time. In the past, free mode segments were occasionally sprinkled into standard running classes. Moving forward, it appears free mode classes will be clearly labeled as such, making it easier for members to select workouts suited to their equipment.

This is especially important, as the standard Peloton Tread does not include free mode capability.

In addition to the free mode class, Peloton was also spotted filming another Pace Target Walk – a feature that we have previously shared is currently in beta testing.

While no official release date has been confirmed for the new free mode classes, the signs are strong that they will be making a comeback in the near future.

Are you eagerly anticipating the return of free mode on the Peloton Tread+?
