Peloton is rolling out new “expert assembly” fees to their devices – effectively a price increase for some devices. These new assembly fees only apply in the US at this time – they have not been added to Canada, Germany, Australia, or Austria yet.
Prior to today, when you ordered a new Peloton device directly from Peloton, it included free delivery & assembly. That is now changing with the addition of “Expert Assembly Fees”. Now, delivery is still free, but if you want it to be assembled, you have to pay the “Expert Assembly Fee”.
At the same time, Peloton is also starting to offer a “Self-Assembly” option. This will let you get the delivery for free – but you’ll be responsibly for putting together the device. This is only being offered for some products at this time.
The new expert assembly fee for Peloton devices are:
- Peloton Bike – $150
- Peloton Bike+ – $150
- Peloton Row – $150
- Peloton Tread – $150
- Peloton Tread+ – $299
The Peloton expert-assembly option includes the following:
- Delivery to room of choice
- Full set-up
- Packaging removal & disposal
They further describe it as “a comprehensive setup from professional service providers. Your equipment will be unpacked, inspected for damage, and assembled. Once assembly is complete, all packaging materials will be removed and disposed of.”
The self-assembly option will only include delivery to your room of choice.

Not every device has the free self-assembly option at this time. For example, the expert assembly is required on the Peloton Tread+ – there is no self-delivery option. This means this is effectively a price increase on some Peloton devices. This new assembly fee is one way Peloton is adjusting prices & improving monetization. Peloton had previously said some adjustments would be made to “reflect their true costs.”
It seems that the Peloton Tread & Row are currently in a transition period. In the most recent earnings call, it was stated that Peloton would be “extending free self-install to include our Tread and Row.” However, that option does not seem to be available yet. We believe that is why the expert assembly fee is currently $0. Once the self-assembly option for Peloton Bike & Tread is launched – it is likely that the expert assembly fee will be increased to somewhere from $150 to $299 – but then customers will have the option for the $0 self-assembly option.
Peloton first started offering self-assembly with the Peloton Bike through orders with Amazon, later rolling it out to the Bike+ as well. All orders made through Peloton still included free assembly from Peloton – until now.
Peloton has experimented with changes to their delivery & assembly over the years. Peloton unbundled shipping & delivery in 2022 – another price increase – before they bundled shipping & delivery back into the price later in the year. However, when they bundled shipping & delivery back in, they did not lower the price – keeping the price increase in place.
Peloton has added a FAQ of why expert assembly may be required for a new purchase. They say:
Expert assembly is required for some equipment due to its size and/or more complex installation needs. Having an expert set up your equipment will not only make your installation smoother, but will help you to start using your new equipment faster.
We will share updates as they become available, including when the Peloton Row & Tread expert assembly fee & self delivery is fully rolled out.

Hey everyone!
There used to be a video showing the self assembly process for the newest cross training Tread+, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore looks like it was removed from YouTube.
By any chance, does anyone still have a copy of it or downloaded it before it got taken down?
I really want to get the Tread+, but self assembly is my only option right now.
Thanks a lot in advance! 🙏
