Some owners of the Peloton Tread & Tread+ are encountering a bug where the security pin code screen is appearing in the middle of an active class.
Typically, while a class is in progress, the pin code / passcode screen never appears. It usually only appears after a certain amount of inactivity when you have stopped using the Tread, or if you are on a menu screen for too long.
For those members impacted by the bug, however, they are randomly getting the pin lock screen in the middle of class, when it shouldn’t be appearing.

Most reports of this seem to be impacting people who are taking non-Tread classes on their devices (i.e. yoga, strength, stretching, etc).
After a few days of the issues being reported in the community (and sent to Peloton), the company created an official bug report for the issue.
The report indicates that “Tread lock is appearing for some members while they are in a class.”
Currently, Peloton says that they are still looking into the issue. However, they do state that rebooting the Tread should fix the issue for most people. There is no estimated timeline for the fix at time of publishing.
The Tread lock is a safety feature which was first added in 2021 as part of the fallout from the recall of the Tread & Tread+ over safety concerns.
A similar bug occurred in December 2024.
