Week in Review – December 8th, 2019

The Week in Review is a round-up of interesting tidbits from the Peloton universe. We share some of these stories via our Facebook page, Facebook group, and Instagram, but not all of it makes it there so be sure to check in weekly for the latest!

Peloton Holiday Commercial Goes Viral & Ryan Reynolds Reacts?

This week, Peloton saw one of their holiday commercials go viral. NBC, The Today Show, Saturday Night Live, and many many others have either covered or joked about the commercial. The most recent news is that the actress in the commercial starred in a commercial from Ryan Reynold’s gin company, Aviation Gin, poking fun at Peloton and ensuing controversy.

Peloton releases Apple Watch app

Perhaps in a bid to steer the discussion away from the commercial, Peloton this week made a couple of big announcements & changes. First up was the release of a new Apple Watch app. The app allows users of Peloton Digital to see their metrics and stats real time when doing workouts. For people who ride on Peloton hardware, the app currently isn’t of much benefit to them.

Digital App subscription price changes from $19.49 to $12.99

Speaking of Digital app users, in a surprise move this week Peloton dropped the price of the Digital app subscription from $19.49 to $12.99 – a drop of 33%. The percentage of overall revenue the company makes from the app subscriptions is tiny, so they are likely gambling on the fact that the small loss of revenue might lead to more people converting into buyers of the bike or tread down the road.

New Peloton App for Amazon Fire TV Stick

Apple Watch wasn’t the only platform getting a new Peloton App this week. The long-rumored Amazon Fire TV Peloton app was also released. It works similar to the Android app – you can browse classes, see favorites, etc. One major downside at this point is there is no functionality to quick swap between users – you have log all the way out and back in.

Holiday Workout Collection Announced – Light Up The Holidays

Over the course of December, Peloton will be releasing holiday-themed workouts every Friday. The first batch of 7 classes was released this Friday and are all available on demand now.

Move For More Collection – Charity Partnership with Action For Healthy Kids

Another December collection that just started is the new “Move For More” collection. For every user who completes at least 3 of these 15 minute workouts, Peloton will make a $5 donation to the charity Action For Healthy Kids. These workouts will be airing at 7am ET week-day mornings, and be available on-demand as well.

New Peloton Apparel Collection

It’s not a holiday without a new collection in the Peloton apparel store, and this season is no different! Peloton released a new holiday collection of outfits in their store this week, just in time for last minute shopping.
