Peloton iOS App Now Has Video Preview Class Thumbnails

Video previews have made their way to the Peloton iOS app. Members are now seeing auto-playing video thumbnails when they click into the class details in the on-demand library. Note that the videos do not contain audio.

The video preview feature first launched over the summer (although it required a press to start it initially) and has evolved over the past few months. The feature allows members to preview a class directly from the app. The ability to preview classes has long been available on hardware devices, but it was never available on the app or web browser until it was added to Android.

In its first iteration, members had to intentionally start the preview by clicking the “preview” button, which launched a 45-second compilation of 2-3 random, predefined snippets from the class. Now on both the iOS and Android apps the preview begins playing automatically when you click into a class – with video only, no audio. This feature was added to the Android app last week and is now available via iOS as well.

This means that members will no longer see the static thumbnail when they click into a class to view more details – moving forward they will see the dynamic class preview.

There is also a setting to disable that in your preferences, if you don’t wish for them to autoplay, called “Autoplay class previews”

Note that unfortunately the “Music” feature that was added to Android along with the video preview has not yet made its way to iOS.

The video preview feature appears to have begun rolling out to the iOS app within the past few days. If you have the iOS app but are not yet seeing this new feature, be sure you have the most updated version installed.
