Update Update – Peloton is having a Black Friday & Cyber Monday sale for up to 40% off their apparel from 11/25 – 12/1.
In what will be disappointing news for potential customers, Peloton will not be holding a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale in 2020 on accessory packages to go with a new Bike, Bike+, Tread, or Tread+ in the US or Canada. This is the first year in at least 6+ that Peloton has not offered a free accessory package with a purchase of a new Peloton device (the last year was in 2014, where the offer was for free delivery). You can see the history of Peloton’s Black Friday deals here.
Peloton shared this news in a comment on their official Peloton Facebook Page. Their statement was:
We are not offering any Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotions for the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Tread+ in the United States or Canada this year, but we recently lowered the price of the original Peloton Bike, which is an even greater value than last year’s promotion! Learn more at onepeloton.com.
Note that the statement specifically refers to just the Peloton hardware devices (Bike & Treads). Last year the apparel store held a “up to” 50% off apparel sale for Black Friday. It originally seemed like there was still a chance the apparel sale could return for a Black Friday & Cyber Monday sale this year. The statement via Peloton social media called out no Bike or Tread sale in the US or Canada – so there’s a slight chance that the UK & Germany could see some sort of bigger Black Friday sale, however unlikely that is.
However, Peloton went on to email members with similar information on November 7th
Our goal is always to communicate transparently and to provide a positive experience for everyone, including you. While we have boosted production and delivery capacity in response to increased demand, we know our delivery times have still been longer than usual. To make sure your wait doesn’t extend any further, we made the decision not to offer a Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotion in the United States or Canada this year.
We have however lowered the price of the original Peloton Bike
from $2,245 to $1,895—an even greater value than last year’s Black Friday offer.
If you’re planning on purchasing a Bike or Bike+, we suggest ordering today to get it as soon as possible. After placing your order, you’ll get complimentary access to the Peloton App until your Bike or Bike+ is delivered and your All-Access Membership starts.
Thank you for showing an interest in Peloton. We hope to welcome you into the community soon!
Based on this, it seems less likely that an apparel Black Friday sale will happen, due to the fact the updated email language states “not to offer a Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotion”.
Why the change this year? As we covered recently, Peloton is facing significant delivery issues & delays. New Bike+ orders are at 12+ weeks at this point. With so much demand, and Peloton having such a hard time getting new products in the hands of customers who have already ordered it, creating a mini rush of sales through a Black Friday sale might further overwhelm the company. Peloton in their own statement claims that “we recently lowered the price of the original Peloton Bike, which is an even greater value than last year’s promotion” as the reason for the change this year.
Most Peloton employees weren’t even aware of this upcoming change, as employees at showrooms have been mentioning the usual Black Friday sales for free accessories and telling members it would most likely happen again this year – it sounds like most employees found out only today. A few of those employees have reached back out to potential new customers they have talked with over the last few weeks, telling them about the change. One of them went on to state the potential for more delays was the reason for the removal of deals:
This year, our delivery times have been longer than usual. To make sure your wait doesn’t extend any further, we made the decision not to offer any Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotions for the Peloton Bike, Bike+, or Tread+ in the United States or Canada this year.
