Kristin McGee Discusses Possibility Of Returning To Peloton As A Guest Instructor

Former Peloton instructor Kristin McGee recently opened up about her departure from the company and her potential future involvement.

In a candid conversation on the “Love at First Science” podcast, Kristin expressed that while she is stepping back to focus on her family, her departure may not be a final goodbye. Instead, she hinted at the possibility of returning as a guest instructor at Peloton.

Kristin also reflected on the challenges of balancing her role at Peloton with her responsibilities as a mom of three. She shared that the decision to leave wasn’t one she made lightly but felt it was the right move given her personal circumstances.

She explained (emphasis ours):

“I feel like if I had learned yoga when I was younger, it’s just mind-blowing how much the practice helps in emotional and physical self-regulation, ways to calm down, all of that. But I think that there was just certain circumstances that I didn’t want to have to make the decision to leave, but there were certain circumstances that just didn’t really make it possible for me to stay in the city with my three boys and continue in the capacity that they were going to have me. So I just figured, you know, now is the time to focus on my family, take a break, and maybe, you know, I’ll be back guest teaching.

Peloton’s past statement about instructor departures adds further context to Kristin’s comments. When addressing recent exits, the company stated this summer:

“Our door will always be open to them, so this is not a final goodbye, but rather, we hope to see them later.”

This underscores Peloton’s potential willingness to welcome back instructors who have previously departed, as they did with German instructor Irene Kaymer.

Kristin went on to add some extra clarity around what guest teaching could look like, saying:

“And I know Christian Vande Velde does these guest spots every couple, like a couple of times a year. Maybe there’s ways to still be a part of the community in some capacity. But I’m excited.”

As she alluded to, Christian Vande Velde returned to Peloton this spring as a guest instructor, and comes back every few months for a weekend of classes.

Based on her comments, it sounds like this might be a possibility she would be open to. Or perhaps we will see something new as she alluded to in her comments about ways to still be a part of the community somehow.

In a response to this story on social media, Kristin responded with a shrug and a wink emoji:

Peloton executives have also recently reaffirmed that guest instructors might be part of their strategy moving forward. In the most recent earnings call, interim CEO Chris Bruzzo specifically talked about guest instructors a few weeks ago, saying:

“Looking ahead, we are using the extensive expertise of our instructors in new ways. And we’ll look to complement the team with guests and potentially new instructors as we find the right voices to reach our incredibly high standard.”

He also mentioned Christian Vande Velde as one of the example guest instructors. This was related to his discussion on how Peloton’s instructors remain a core focus of the company.

Kristin first announced her departure on June 17, and taught her last live class at the end of June. During that time Peloton unveiled a “Greatest Hits” collection dedicated to some of Kristin’s best classes over the years. Earlier this summer Kristin shared her first major project she has lined up next: a yoga and wellness cruise in France in March of 2025.
