Peloton is experimenting with a “new” class format for bootcamp classes called “Bootcamp 50/50.” This saw the first 50% of the workout on the device (in this case on the bike) and the second 50% of the class as the strength portion on the floor.
The first class of this format was a Bike Bootcamp 50/50 taught by Tunde Oyeneyin on 9/3/24 @ 12:15pm ET.

Ordinarily, 30 minute Bike Bootcamp classes have two transitions. You start with cycling, transition to the floor for strength, then return to the Bike to finish the class with cycling. The class format is usually 8-10 minutes in the first cycling session, 13-15 minutes for the strength portion of the class including both transitions, and 6-8 minutes in the second cycling session.

The “new” 50/50 Bike Bootcamp format, however, shook up the format and reduced the number of transitions from two to one. Tunde’s 50/50 Bootcamp started with 14 minutes of cycling, then transitioned to the floor for 15 minutes of full body strength to close out the class.

The class description for the first 50/50 Bootcamp from 9/3/24 is:
“Clip in and join Tunde in this full-body workout that splits your bootcamp in half with high intensity intervals on the Bike and strength-building moves on the mat. This efficient and challenging bootcamp will take your confidence to the next level.”
With 45 minute and 60 minute Bike Bootcamp classes, there are usually three (Cycle-Floor-Cycle-Floor) or four transitions (Cycle-Floor-Cycle-Floor-Cycle) between the Bike and mat, taking even more minutes away from your overall workout time. By reducing the transitions, it should make for a more efficient workout with less down time.
It is not known yet if Peloton will try this same format with the longer 45-60 minute bootcamp classes yet. The transitions for Bike Bootcamp are the most cumbersome compared to other Bootcamp classes, as they do require that you change in and out of your cycling shoes when switching between the cycling and strength portions of class.
Looking ahead at Peloton’s live class schedule, Peloton will have a 30 minute Row Bootcamp: 50/50 on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 AM ET taught by Katie Wang. Even though Row and Tread Bootcamps do not require a change in shoes before you can start your strength, less transitions and less time wasted in class seems to make sense.
Peloton has not yet added any Tread Bootcamp 50/50 classes on the schedule at this time.
Several years ago, Peloton used to have some bootcamps in this 50/50 format – although they were not called 50/50 at the time. However, this is the first time in several years Peloton has had classes of this format.
What do you think about this “new” 50/50 bootcamp class format?

Thanks for this article. I truly appreciate the 50/50 format as it allows me to finish out on the floor instead of the bike. This way my 14 minutes of cycling will be much more powerful as well as my strength workout. Looking forward to taking this class this morning. I hope Peloton creates more for the bike so I can have more of a variety. One for a focus on lower body, upper body, and core.
Honestly I don’t like them. If you want the 50-50 format just take a 20 minute spin and then a 20 minute strength. The whole point is the additional spliced.
