Peloton has elevated Hiking to a top-level class type and filter, giving hike classes their own place in the modality menu.
Until now, hikes have lived within the Walking modality, where members could surface them by filtering for “hiking” under class type.
Peloton has now pulled Hiking out into its own top-level filter, with a new Hiking icon sitting at the top of the menu alongside Walking, Running, Cycling, Rowing, and the rest.

Selecting Hiking displays the hike classes in the on-demand library in one place, and brings filter options specific to that library. Members can narrow hikes by instructor, as well as by class type, which offers three options for hikes: Theme, Music, and Hiking.
This is a discovery change rather than a new achievement category. Hike classes still register as Walking in your workout history, with “Walking” listed as the body activity on each one, and they continue to count toward Walking milestones and badges. That could change down the line, and we will share an update if Hiking ever gets its own milestones or trackers.
The new hiking top level filter should be available on the Peloton apps (iOS & Android) as well as the Peloton Treads, along with the Peloton website. On the iOS app & Tread hardware devices, it is towards the middle of the filters – next to walking. On the web, it is the last option.
The change closely mirrors Peloton’s recent move to elevate Pilates to its own top-level filter in January. In that case, Pilates was carved out of the Strength modality while its classes kept counting toward Strength milestones, the same approach Peloton is taking with Hiking and Walking here. More recently, Peloton has acquired Skōp, a company that makes a connected Pilates reformer.
What do you think of Hiking getting its own filter? Are there other class types you would like to see elevated next?
