Peloton May Bring Form Feedback to More Class Types with Cross Training Devices and Peloton IQ

Peloton’s form feedback technology may one day expand to other modalities.

In a recent Reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA), Peloton Chief Technology Officer Nick Caldwell revealed that the company envisions extending form feedback beyond strength training.

Peloton first brought camera vision form feedback to hardware via the Guide, and also has a different sensor-based form assist technology on the Row.

That same camera-based Form Feedback functionality is now integrated into the Cross Training Bike+, Tread+, and Row+ for strength classes when using the screen to take a mat class off the device. The feature uses a movement-tracking camera to analyze positioning and provide real-time feedback, helping members improve technique and consistency.

When asked by one Reddit user whether the Guide or AI features would eventually work during a ride or run to help improve form, Caldwell replied:

“At some point I want form feedback across all of our modalities. I’m extremely proud of what we’ve done with Strength, it is state of the art, and we have no intention to stop there.”

Another user followed up with a Tread-specific question, asking whether Peloton IQ could provide gait or form analysis for runners – or if it was primarily focused on strength and yoga – as well as whether it might offer more personalized marathon training programs.

Caldwell responded:

“Awesome questions! Ultimately I’d love for Tread+ to have running form feedback. This is an insanely popular feature on Row+ and is the hallmark of our new Movement Tracking camera.”

These comments suggest that Peloton intends to bring its form feedback and AI-driven personalization to a wider range of modalities, including potentially running and cycling.

This Reddit AMA offered several other noteworthy updates from Caldwell, including that Peloton is not yet offering upgrade kits to convert existing devices to the new Cross Training screens, as the change involves more than a simple screen swap; and that Peloton hopes to make the Strength+ app available on Android and in additional countries next year.

As Peloton continues to build out Peloton IQ and refine its hardware lineup, it appears the company’s long-term goal is clear: bring personalized feedback to every workout experience on the platform, regardless of modality.
