The New Peloton Cross Training Bike+ Does Not Support Apple GymKit

When Peloton first launched the original Series Bike+ in 2020, one of its flagship features was Apple GymKit integration – allowing Apple Watch users to seamlessly connect their watch to the bike by simply holding it near the screen. Once connected, the Apple watch acted as a heart rate monitor and automatically logged the workout in Apple Health with full cycling metrics.

However, the Apple GymKit feature is notably missing from Peloton’s new Cross Training Bike+.

With the Original Series Bike+, when you start a class, there is a visible banner prompting you to connect via GymKit. That no longer exists on the Cross Training Bike+.

There are no menu options available to turn GymKit on, and the feature is not mentioned anywhere on Peloton’s product description pages of the Cross Training Bike+.

GymKit was previously a point of pride for Peloton’s Bike+, featured prominently in marketing materials when the device first launched. But in the years since, the company’s approach has shifted. Peloton even attempted to remove GymKit integration last year – a move that drew immediate community backlash and was quickly reversed.

Now, with the Cross Training Bike+, GymKit is gone once again. Only the original series Bike+ retains support.

This is an intentional decision by Peloton to remove GymKit support on their Cross Training Bike+. Peloton made GymKit part of its original Bike+ promise, so removing it from existing original series Bike+ units was problematic. With the Cross Training Bike+, no such commitment existed – giving Peloton the freedom to drop the feature entirely.

At this time, it is unclear whether the NFC hardware – which is required in order to support GymKit – is physically missing from the new Cross Training Bike+ screen, or if Peloton has simply chosen not to enable it in software. Peloton has not shared any communications about this either way.

That said, Apple Watch users are not left out completely. Members can still connect their Apple watch to the Peloton Cross Training Bike+ using the Peloton app for Apple Watch. This method also tracks heart rate data and syncs workouts to Apple Health. Over time, Peloton has improved this integration to record more metrics than it once did, closing much of the gap that originally made GymKit special.

We will share any updates on this matter as they become available. For now, members who value Apple’s GymKit functionality should be advised about the new Cross Training Bike+ limitations.
