Peloton Android App Update Adds Leaderboard & High Fives

Peloton has rolled out a long awaited update to its Android app: the ability to view the in-class leaderboard and give other members high fives.

Until now, this was a notable gap in the Android experience compared to web, iOS, and Peloton hardware (Bike, Tread, Row), where the leaderboard and high five features have been available for years.

Before the update, the in-class Android experience only showed your metrics with no way to view the leaderboard or interact with other riders.

Previously, the Android in-class experience offered only one screen, focused on your own metrics (target cadence and resistance, your calories, heart rate, etc). Android users could not see who else was taking the class with them, and had no way to give or receive high fives during a workout.

With the new update, the Android in-class experience now has three tabs at the bottom of the screen.

The first tab is the original metrics view, which still opens by default.

The second tab is the new leaderboard tab, which shows other members taking the class with you and lets you tap a hand icon next to their name to send a high five.

After giving a high five the icon disappears from next to their name.

The third new tab is a notifications feed. This is where you’ll see updates throughout the class, like other members hitting streaks, plus high fives that other riders are sending you, and high fives sent in return when you have given one to someone.

The new notifications tab surfaces high fives sent your way, high fives back, and member milestones during the class.

One thing to note at this time: the Android leaderboard appears to only show members taking the class on Peloton hardware (Bike, Tread, Row). On the iOS app and the web, the leaderboard surfaces other app riders as well, but at this time the Android version does not. This will likely be addressed in a future update, but is something to be aware of for now if you are wondering why the Android leaderboard count looks smaller than what you might see elsewhere.

For Android users, this is a step toward feature parity with the rest of the Peloton ecosystem, giving Android users a feature Apple iOS users have had for years.

This is the latest in a number of software updates Peloton has rolled out recently under CEO Peter Stern, including the new Note to Self feature launching next week and the cardio swap update for Personalized Plans.

However, Android users are still waiting on the Peloton Strength+ app, which became available to iOS users in 2024.
