Barbie Releases First Doll with Type 1 Diabetes + Custom Robin Arzón Barbie

Barbie has released its first-ever doll with type 1 diabetes (T1D), and as part of the release & promotion, also made a “one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls made in their likeness” of Robin Arzon.

This new Barbie was made in partnership with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) – a leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization. The brands shared that the new type 1 diabetes Barbie was created in the spirit of inclusivity and representation, saying:

This addition to the line enables more children to see themselves reflected in Barbie and encourages doll play that extends beyond a child’s own lived experience, thereby fostering a greater sense of inclusion and empathy – all pillars of the Barbie brand’s mission.

Mattel (creators of Barbie) designers worked closely with both children and community members living with T1D to capture the details that matter most. They noted that it includes features like having a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), Insulin Pump, and a Blue Polka Dot Outfit, stating that “Both the color blue and circle print are nods to the global symbols that represent diabetes awareness.”

The new T1D Barbie doll is being made available through retailers everywhere Barbie is sold, including Amazon (affiliate link), Mattel’s own store, and more..

In addition to the new type 1 diabetes doll that is being sold in stores, Barbie teamed up with Robin Arzon, as well as model Lila Moss, to promote the new dolls.

As part of this promotion, Mattell created a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll in Robin’s likeness. In a social media post, Barbie shared the specifics of this new custom Barbie for Robin, saying:

To celebrate the launch of the first-ever Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes, we’ve partnered with athlete and T1D advocate, @RobinNYC to create this one-of-a-kind-doll, dressed in yellow (IYKYK) and sporting her signature swagger. 👑 #Barbie #BarbieStyle

The new custom Robin Arzon Barbie is outfitted in an all-yellow ensemble – a nod to Robin’s go-to color for her most challenging Peloton classes – and features realistic diabetes gear, including a crown-shaped continuous glucose monitor (CGM) placed on the back of her arm, just like Robin wears hers. She also sports a hairstyle similar to some of Robin’s signature looks.

To celebrate Robin’s new Barbie, employees of Mattel presented Robin the custom Barbie during a Peloton class – her 30 min 90s Pop Ride on 7/8/25 @ 3:00pm ET. Robin shared a little bit about the collaboration during the class as well.

Barbie also posted a behind-the-scenes video that follows Robin’s visit to the Mattel headquarters, where she met with product designers and saw firsthand how the doll was created. The video shows Robin introducing the finished doll to two young girls living with T1D. Robin explains that this doll is about representation – about showing kids that they are “strong, seen, and unstoppable.”

Robin also shared highlights of the experience on her Instagram Stories, expressing her excitement about collaborating on a project that means so much to her and the T1D community.

While Barbie is making the T1D Barbie doll available for purchase, the Robin Arzon version of the Barbie is a custom one-off, and not expected to be made available for purchase anywhere.

The new T1D Barbie doll is part of the “Fashionistas” line for the brand, which now includes 175 looks across various skin tones, eye colors, hair colors and textures, body types, disabilities, and fashion style. Other Barbies in this line include a Blind Barbie doll, a Black Barbie with Down syndrome, a Barbie doll with Hearing Aids, Vitiligo, dolls in a Wheelchair, a doll without hair, a Barbie with a Prosthetic Limb and many others.

Peloton previously collaborated with Mattel & Barbie for some Barbie The Movie Peloton classes featuring songs from The Barbie album in 2023.
