Peloton’s Custom Audio Mix slider feature is disabled until January 2025 due to a bug

Peloton has temporarily disabled their custom audio mix slider feature (or “mix on device” feature).

This is the feature that on Peloton hardware allows members to use a slider to control the audio mix – changing the balance between the instructor talking and music playing.

Peloton has shared that there are “isolated reports of music and instructor audio being out of sync” – and because of this, the feature has temporarily been disabled.

A bug report has been created for this issue, titled: “Mix on Device feature has been disabled due to isolated reports of music and instructor audio being out of sync.”

In the report, Peloton says that they have identified the cause of this issue, however, the feature is not expected to be turned back on until January. The latest status is:

The issue has been root caused, and the team is working on implementing and testing a fix. We expect the feature to be turned back on for members the first week of January.

Note that this bug is only impacting the custom slider part of the feature. The pre-set options of “More Music”, “More Instructor”, and “Default” are still available. It is just the ability to use the slider (the “Custom” option) to fine tune the mix that is being disabled until next year.

The mix here will feature mostly the music with the instructor levels turned down.

This feature first began being tested in March 2024, before rolling out more widely to most members in July.

We will share more information should it become available.

I did notice that once or twice, when the instructor was low-key singing along, but other than that it didn’t really affect my ride experience.

What I wish was that sliding one fader all the way to the right would eliminate the music entirely…I’ve figured out a janky way to pipe my own tunes on a ride but I can’t eliminate the in-ride music completely, unfortunately.

Love that feature. Was finally able to take classes with the instructors that talk too much but play good music. Got spoiled . Guess I’ll be miserable for a bit longer. Thanks for the update.
