Alert regarding Walk + Run classes in the Peloton app.

Peloton Walk + Run Classes Now Count As Runs

Peloton has made a small but meaningful update to how Walk + Run classes are categorized, and it is one that many members have been hoping to see for a while.

Previously, Walk + Run classes were housed under the Walking modality. However, Peloton has now shifted them to fall under Running instead. This means that Walk + Run classes will now count toward members’ overall running totals, running milestones, and running personal records, rather than walking ones.

Some members received an in-app notification alerting them to the change, which read:

Now find Walk+Runs under the running discipline.
Plus, all classes will count towards your running milestones, so you can take your goals a step further.

All of Peloton’s existing Walk + Run content has been migrated from the walking modality to the running modality. In addition, the Walk+Run filter has already been moved to the Running section across the app and devices, and it no longer appears within the Walking filters.

At this point, it appears that this change will only impact new classes you take moving forward. In other words – Walk + Run classes you have already taken will remain counted towards your walking milestones. However, new ones you take moving forward will count towards your running milestones.

This appears to be the case for personal records as well. If you set a walking personal record in a walk + run class, it will remain in place. However, any walk + run classes you take moving forward will be counted towards your run personal records, not your walks.

This is the same way Peloton has handled such changes in the past – such as when Bike Bootcamp was moved out of cycling to become its own separate modality. Should Peloton change this and retroactively update past classes, we will share an update.

This update aligns with long-standing community feedback from members who wanted Walk + Runs recognized as part of their running journey, rather than walks.

Have you noticed the change yet, and are you happy to see Walk + Run classes now live within the running modality and count toward your running milestones?

No, not happy with this at all. I take a lot of walk runs and like that they all count as walks. That said, it’s not going to impact anything significant. But overall, I am just not liking the direction – for example, pace targets and forcing us to use them. It’s distracting. And unnecessary programs that just complicate finding classes. I don’t like the overall direction in general. Get back to basics, such as roll call, then add the bells and whistles. Stop over complicating things.
