Peloton Sprint Interval Training Classes (SIT) & Collection With Christine D’Ercole Added

Peloton has officially began labeling a class type instructor Christine D’Ercole has been quietly teaching for some time now: Sprint Interval Training (SIT).

Applicable rides that were once simply labeled as “Intervals” now have their own formal identity: Sprint Interval Training (SIT). On May 27, Peloton launched a new class label and a dedicated SIT Collection, complete with an informative video from Christine and three brand new on-demand classes of varying durations.

Peloton shared the news via Instagram, writing:

New Sprint Interval classes with Christine are on demand now! These classes focus on short bursts of effort followed by longer recoveries, perfect for working through all stages of life ⚡

The post includes a video of Christine previewing the format, in which she explains that the sprints are always 30 seconds or less, and the recoveries are always between 2-4 minutes. These short, sharp intervals are designed to push maximum effort while giving the body the time it needs to recover, adapt, and get stronger.

In the comments, Christine elaborated on her thinking behind these classes, saying:

I AM thrilled that we are offering this program
I CAN not wait for you all to take these classes
I WILL keep educating myself to share science driven exercise programming for you
I DO know that you are stronger than you think! ❤️

She went on to share that the classes were inspired by the work of Dr. Stacy Sims, as well as Selene Yeager. She went into even more detail on the classes, saying:

What makes these classes different than other interval classes is the specific ratio of work to recovery. Intervals are always 30 seconds or less in recoveries are always 2 to 4 minutes. Some might think that’s a long recovery but if you’re actually pushing as hard as you can, to failure , then you’ll be wishing for even longer recoveries.

The benefits of these super intense short bursts are that they stimulate our fast twitch muscle fibers, which, as Sims and Yeager state are the first to go as we age. These are the muscle fibers that are activated when we need to respond quickly to a stimulus – like tripping or missing a step and being able to catch yourself before falling. As we age and possibly lose bone density and muscle mass, the risk of serious injury from a fall increases dramatically and can shorten our lifespan.

Additionally, this format helps boost metabolism, which can positively impact body composition, and it’s awfully fun to hit those BIG WATTS! ❤️

Along with more intentional class labeling, Peloton has also unveiled a dedicated collection so that the available classes are easier to find. The official collection description reads:

“Unlock your power in all-out sprint intervals of 30 secs or less, followed by longer recovery periods. This targeted training method focuses on building neuromuscular power and is perfect for those working through the changes of various life stages.”

As of publishing time, the SIT Collection includes eight classes, including both newly labeled sessions and previously released rides that followed the SIT format but were not tagged as such. New additions released this week come in durations between 20-45 minutes. We anticipate new classes will be added to the collection as they become available.

The SIT release coincides with the launch of Peloton’s new Weighted Vest classes. Both initiatives reflect Peloton’s growing emphasis on training for longevity, strength, and hormonal health. Peloton also recently launched the first longevity classes on the platform, reflecting their growing focus on healthy aging.
