Peloton has made a significant adjustment in how its Pilates classes lives on the platform: as of yesterday, January 20, Pilates has been moved to a top-level class type & filter.
Since Pilates debuted on the Peloton platform back in 2020, classes have been housed within the strength modality & filter. Peloton added a sub-filter within strength for Pilates years ago to make them easier to locate, but the classes have always been considered a subset of Peloton’s strength offerings.
However, Peloton has now separated Pilates out to be its own distinct top-level filter. Members will see a new icon for Pilates at the top of the menu alongside all other modalities such as Cycling, Running, Stretching, etc.

Selecting the Pilates modality will display every single Pilates class currently available in the on-demand library. Peloton is phrasing this as now having “its own dedicated content library”. However, it is not technically a full separate modality.
This means that there are also new filter options now available for Pilates content. Members can search by instructor – which will display only the instructors that have ever taught Pilates on the Peloton platform – and class type – which allows members to view Pilates class types such as body focus, music, express, theme, and full body. Note that there is also a class type option for “Sculpt,” which displays Power classes.

Peloton sent a notification in the app to members notifying them of this change, saying “Find Pilates Faster. Lengthen, strengthen, and flow. Tap into your next Pilates class through the new Pilates filter”.
With this change, Peloton has also added Pilates as it’s own category & option within the “Just Work Out” feature.
However, although Pilates is now a top level category – it is still technically considered a strength class when it comes towards how it shows up in your history. Peloton has stated that “Even though Pilates is no longer found under the Strength class library as a class type, Pilates classes will still count towards Strength milestones and related challenges.”
Of course, this could change in the future, and we will be sure to provide an update should Pilates get it’s own milestones & trackers.
It is worth noting that Barre classes are still living within the larger on-demand strength library, but this update to Pilates does allow speculation for whether Barre will eventually be moved to its own, top-level filter as well.
This news follows the announcement that two of Peloton’s newest instructors – Johanna Ricouz and Greta Dopp – will begin teaching Pilates classes later this week.
What do you think of this change? Are there other Peloton classes you could see meriting their own top level filter?
