Somewhat hidden in the recent news surrounding Peloton’s live schedule changes was a possible hint towards potential barbell classes or programming.
In case you missed it, last week Peloton announced a significant shift in its programming schedule, revealing that live classes will no longer be held on Wednesdays from either Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) or Peloton Studios London (PSL). According to the company’s statement, this change is designed to “carve out dedicated time and space for our Content, Production, and Instructor teams to meaningfully focus on innovation to shape new fitness and wellness experiences for our Members.”
In addition, Peloton specifically promised that members should expect more strength programming. According to the press release:
“Strength is our second most popular modality and millions of people take our strength classes each week. We are exploring new ways to help Members reach strength goals; including Gym-focused content and progressive strength training programs.”

Included in the press release was an image of instructor Rad Lopez using a barbell while being recorded by a film crew. The image even showed a device tracking, or counting, his reps. Note that the location was not PSNY, but a different site. This could hint that Peloton is potentially working on new strength content utilizing a barbell.
This is not the first time Peloton has teased the use of barbells on the platform. Earlier this year numerous instructors posted behind the scenes content of recent Peloton photoshoots; and several included shots with barbells.
Previously, the most obvious way for Peloton to incorporate a barbell into their strength programming was through a Peloton Gym workout, which are the self-guided workouts curated by a particular instructor designed to be taken at a gym. As an aside, there have not been any new Peloton Gym plans released since February of this year.
However, the image included in the Peloton press release suggests that barbells could be more prominently incorporated into upcoming Peloton strength programming. It is also worth noting that Peloton just released their first strength program with new equipment – Andy Speer’s Total Strength: Density Training 2 program utilizes a weight bench for the first time on the Peloton platform.
It is not entirely clear how a barbell might be incorporated into Peloton’s strength programming or when members could expect new content to arrive; nonetheless, the inclusion of an image of an instructor with a barbell in their recent press release is unlikely to be coincidental.
We will share updates on this potential new programming incorporating a barbell as details become available. Would you be interested in new Peloton content that featured the use of a barbell?

Could this possibly be something more? Perhaps a piece of peloton hardware that would take on Tonal or other smart home gym?
I think you will greatly enhance customer experience by adding more and longer guided rides. Right now there are only four, two twenty minute and two thirty minute rides. It works for Nordic Track.
