“The Ride” with Matt Wilpers – Short-Form Documentary about Hincapie Gran Fondo Lehigh Valley

Peloton instructor Matt Wilpers was the subject of a recent short-form documentary about a Gran Fondo ride he participated in earlier this year. The film is called “The Ride” and was produced by the company Oars + Alps – a skincare company that Matt maintains a brand partnership with.

The documentary is just over 13 minutes in length and can be viewed via YouTube.

The description reads:

In this short form documentary, Matt Wilpers gives us an intimate view into his cycling race prep process for the Gran Fondo Hincapie while also offering lessons and insights on the innate connection between mental and physical health. It’s an inspiring glimpse into the life and motivations of one of today’s most trusted fitness coaches.

The film premiered in New York City on September 27, and numerous Peloton instructors were in attendance to support Matt. Matt shared his excitement via Instagram:

Big shout out and thank you 🙏 to everyone that came out this evening to check out the premiere of a short form documentary that I filmed with @oarsandalps .
Please stay tuned to @oarsandalps for the release this Sunday 🙌

For those unfamiliar, Gran Fondos are mass-participation long-distance cycling events that take place all over the world. The film covers a number of different aspects of Matt’s training routine, as well as diving a bit deeper into different aspects of his personal life and previous struggles.

Several familiar faces are interviewed – such as Matt’s wife Jessica. The couple got married in Nicaragua earlier this year, and Jessica reveals in the film that they met by chance at the original Peloton Studios on 23rd Street after Matt had just finished teaching a class. In addition, numerous Team Wilpers coaches are featured, including John Ferry – the husband of fellow Peloton instructor Hannah Corbin.

The film also offers glimpses of several members of the Peloton Road Riders group – who also took part in the Hincapie Gran Fondo, and did a pre-race shakeout ride with Matt as well.

There are many scenes from the race itself, at which Matt placed first in the 40s age group. Matt also discusses the meaning behind his slogan, which can often be heard at the end of his Peloton classes: “Train hard, train smart, and always have fun.”

Matt is also preparing for another Hincapie Gran Fondo in South Carolina later this month, an event he has participated in for the past several years.
