Peloton Class Purges are Still Taking Place

If you have been wondering whether Peloton is still removing classes from the on-demand library, the answer is yes. Peloton class purges are still occurring.

Though not as routine as they once were, members should know that periodic removals continue behind the scenes. A small purge took place early last week, serving as the latest example.

As always, Peloton classes can be removed for a variety of reasons. One reason is music licensing – expired or changing rights can require Peloton to pull certain classes. Other removals are part of routine content library maintenance, such as pulling classes that are not taken regularly by members or retiring older programming the company no longer wants to feature.

Back in 2023, Peloton began formalizing these purges into a weekly process, which we covered at the time in detail. Peloton has previously noted that – like any media company – their production and processes improve over time, and they also release fresh content every day. Thus, just like Netflix and other streaming/media companies, Peloton implemented more processes around the removals, as they cannot retain all of their content forever.

Although the cadence has shifted and purges no longer appear to happen every week with the same regularity, they do still occur from time to time. Members of Peloton’s content team are tasked with reviewing classes and determining what should be removed, and classes that remain popular for years over time are typically preserved.

Peloton does not provide any official notice or list of classes they remove, or are planning to remove. They simply disappear from the on-demand library at a certain point. The number of classes removed each purge can vary too, based on a number of factors.

Peloton will also reverse course and restore classes if there is enough community outcry. For example, in this most recent purge last week, a class from an instructor’s unofficial split strength program was removed. Enough people reached out to Peloton customer support that the class was restored a day or so after it was initially removed.

We will continue to keep an eye on any major or notable removals, and share any updates as they become available.
