Peloton instructor Becs Gentry recently won first place overall in the 2026 Napa Valley Trail Marathon.
The marathon took place this past Saturday, March 21 in Bothe-Napa Valley State Park near St. Helena, California. Becs shared a reflection on the race via Instagram, saying “It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves”.
She went on to share that this was her “return to trail racing”:
Napa Valley Trail Marathon. Yesterday I did something I’ve been toying with for a minute, something I’ve been intimidated by for a while; I made my return to trail racing and to top it off, I took the OVERALL win. (More to come on that and my prize!!)
Becs then went into how she felt on the course, talking about the 4 loops and the climbing involved:
As I ran, my legs were singing loud, at times my breathing and my heart rate felt like they were racing one another, but my smile kept getting bigger. I went out hard, and I kept at it – a gruelling 4 loop course climbing a tonne of technical, steep, single paths with a long rocky descent into a brief road moment. 4 times I laughed on the tarmac unsure what felt worse – flat, ascent or descent – while knowing I’m one race closer to something big and understanding I’ve got a LOT of work to do.

Becs has been alluding to the next event she is training for, and this race was the next step in her training for it. She said:
Training continues, with my confidence amped up. Stay tuned….
She has still not yet officially announced what her next big race is
According to race records, Becs’ official finishing time was 3:22:58.0.
The Napa Valley Trail Marathon offers a more rugged and intimate alternative to traditional road racing. Typically held in March, the event features marathon, half marathon, and 10K distances, all run on technical trails that include rolling hills, steep climbs, rocky terrain, and shaded forest paths.
