Peloton recently updated its return policy for online apparel orders, quietly adding a new $9 restocking fee. Initially, there was a workaround for those who wanted to avoid this fee: members could return items to a Peloton showroom.
However, recent reports indicate that Peloton has now changed this policy, requiring all online orders to be returned exclusively through the online process. This shift eliminates the option to return online orders to showrooms, effectively making the $9 restocking fee unavoidable for most members.
In case you missed it, last month Peloton introduced a $9 restocking fee for Peloton Apparel items purchased online, a move that received mixed reactions within the Peloton community.
While some customers reported that they could still avoid this fee by returning items directly to physical showrooms, this option appears to have been phased out. Now, only items purchased in-store can be returned to showrooms, while all online orders must now go through the online return process.
The $9 restocking fee means that customers must consider this additional cost when purchasing apparel from Peloton’s online store. This fee applies even if a member simply wishes to exchange for a different size or style, creating a financial disincentive to return items.

Additionally, this fee applies regardless of whether the original item was in perfect condition, and even affects members who received incorrect or damaged items. Reports have surfaced of customers who were shipped the wrong size or a damaged product and were still required to pay the restocking fee to obtain a replacement. Though not guaranteed, we anticipate Peloton will figure out a fix for this issue, as this is not a common practice by retailers.
This policy change has sparked frustration among some Peloton members, who have expressed concerns about paying an additional fee when needing to exchange for a different size, not liking the product in-person, or when potential errors occur on Peloton’s end.
While the $9 fee remains in place, Peloton’s policies have been known to change based on customer feedback and operational needs, so these guidelines may evolve over time. For now, however, members should be prepared to return online purchases through Peloton’s online return system, with the $9 restocking fee factored into any returns they might make.
For those looking to avoid return fees entirely, the best approach may be to shop in person at Peloton’s retail locations if possible. However, depending on location this is likely not a feasible option for everyone – and they may not have the same stock, color, or styles as the online store has at points.
We will continue to share updates on this new Peloton Apparel policy as details become available.
