Becs Gentry finished the CCC at UTMB Mont-Blanc in 19 hours, 3 minutes, and 14 seconds, placing 446th overall.
She was 16th in her category and 107th in her division. After starting at 9:00am on Friday, August 28 in Courmayeur, she crossed the finish line in Chamonix in the early hours of Saturday morning, where her partner Austin Curtis and daughter Tallulah were waiting.
We shared earlier this month that Becs would be running the 101 kilometer CCC, but she said afterward that the distance changed several times. It was initially supposed to be 101 kilometers, then increased to 108, dropped back to 106, and ultimately came out to around 110 kilometers on her watch.
Her watch recorded approximately 68 miles and more than 20,000 feet of climbing.
Becs shared after finishing:
“I can’t quite comprehend I crossed this iconic finish line. It’s something I’ve quietly thought about doing for over a decade and early this morning I did it. There’s a lot to unpack. My body is so incredibly sore and I’m beyond tired but the pride is bigger than I imagined.”
In an interview posted afterward, Becs called it the hardest thing she has ever done, “including child birth,” adding that she thinks her labor was shorter than her finish time.
The weather did not help. The race started in hail and pouring rain, and Becs described the first climb as “a slog.” She said that after reaching the top and turning the corner, a gust of wind “took me halfway down the mountain.”
She also used her poles heavily throughout the race and never stowed them, which left her shoulders particularly sore afterward.

Her summary of the experience was:
“It was brutal but beautiful. I will not be doing it again.”
She did leave the door open to racing again before the end of the year, saying she might do a road marathon or half marathon next.
Becs thanked Austin in her post for “always keeping me strong and smiling through my tears,” along with the rest of her crew, family who helped with childcare while she was in the mountains, and HOKA.
The finish caps a long year for Becs. She won the Napa Valley Trail Marathon outright in March, teasing at the time that she was one race closer to something bigger, and later used the Speedgoat 50K in Utah as a training long run rather than a target race.
Two days before the CCC, Becs led a 6K HOKA shakeout run through Chamonix as her final easy run before race day.
