Peloton’s Chief Content Officer recently hinted at possible new categories of business for Peloton: nutrition, sleep, and rest.

In case you missed it, Peloton recently announced a significant shift in its programming schedule, indicating that live classes will no longer be held on Wednesdays from either Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) or Peloton Studios London (PSL). According to the company’s press release, they are “reallocating resources on those days” – allowing for things like more strength content, new programming, and more.
The same day this news was announced, CNBC published an in-depth article about Peloton’s standing and potential future paths. The article covers a number of aspects of Peloton’s business – specifically pertaining to the global refinancing secured this past June – but a solid portion of the piece was dedicated to content.
Peloton’s Chief Content Officer Jen Cotter was interviewed, and provided some context and insight into Peloton’s decision to alter their live class schedule. According to Cotter:
“We’re all going to still be creating, creating social content, dropping new classes,” Peloton’s Chief Content Officer Jen Cotter told CNBC. “I think that we’ll just be using the brain space that would have been spent on live classes that day to come up with new programs, new ways to distribute wellness content, new categories of business to go in, like nutrition and rest and sleep, which we’ve not really done as deeply as we plan to do.”
Peloton has historically shared small amounts of nutrition information, tips, and guidance on The Output – Peloton’s blog – and they also have sleep meditations and programs.
However, what Cotter is alluding to in this scenario appears to be something much more involved, potentially amounting to new business streams for the company.

It is currently unclear what exactly Peloton might be pursuing in terms of nutrition, sleep, and rest; but Cotter’s statements indicate that something new could be on the horizon.
At this time, Cotter or Peloton has yet to provide further clarity into what exactly a Peloton nutrition offering would look like. One can imagine some potential avenues might be educational content from instructors, more partnerships in nutrition and sleep, or even branded “Peloton Nutrition” electrolytes and other products that can be purchased from third party retailers. We will continue to keep an eye on this space and will share updates as they become available.
In addition, Cotter explained that while this live schedule change will help cut back on costs, it is “more of an opportunity to make better use of its production staff than it is a cost-cutting measure.” She also spoke briefly about the recent instructor departures that took place at the end of June, reaffirming that they were due to contract negotiations.

Yes! I really hope Peloton does this!
I have long thought that some kind of Peloton program of nutrition classes would be a welcome addition. I would definitely sign up for that, perhaps go through such a program multiple times. More information on rest days, also. I find that as a senior I need more active recovery days or even just out and out full rest days than I needed in my younger years.
PLEEZE add more guided rides, it’s a no brainer. Only a few 20 and 30 minute rides is ridiculous. It works well Nordic Trak.
