Peloton recently sponsored an award for the Sporting Equals Awards 2023. The Sporting Equals Awards are hosted by the nonprofit organization Sporting Equals, a United Kingdom-based charity that works to address diversity and inclusion in sports.
According to their website, the Sporting Equals Awards “recognise and celebrate the contributions made by ethnically diverse people & communities to sport and help drive change in the sport sector where more role models from more communities in more sports are a priority to increase participation.”
Peloton instructors Hannah Frankson and Jermaine Johnson attended the awards ceremony on behalf of the company. The Peloton award was called the Peloton Sportswoman of the Year award, and was awarded to Katarina Johnson-Thompson:
Katarina Johnson-Thompson won the Peloton Sportswoman of the Year award. 22022/23 was a year in which Johnson-Thompson returned to the top of the podium after a difficult period of time. She started by winning the Commonwealth Games Heptahlon title in 2022, then caught the imagination of the British public by winning the World Championship in 2023.
Sporting Equals shared the full breakdown of awardees via Instagram. According to the award finalist page, Katarina “is the World and Commonwealth heptathlon champion. She has spoken out about her experience of racism in the public domain including in a Vogue interview. She has also launched the LFC x KJT Academy to help aspiring athletes who may not get the opportunity otherwise due to their socio-economic background.”
The other finalists for the Peloton Sportswoman of the Year award were Natasha Jonas and Rachel Choong.
Hannah and Jermaine presented the award to Katarina on behalf of Peloton, and shared highlights from the event via Instagram:
