Peloton Announces Partnership with the New York City Marathon Road Runners + Audio & Scenic Classes + Free NYC Marathon Contest

Peloton has announced a partnership with the New York Road Runners (NYRR) in advance of the New York City Marathon. Peloton shared the news via press release:

Starting with the TCS New York City Marathon, New York Road Runners (NYRR) and Peloton (NASDAQ: PTON) have announced a multi-year partnership to bring NYRR races to life to runners around the world through Peloton Scenic and Outdoor content. The audio classes will release in late 2023 with Scenic content launching in the spring of 2024 on the Peloton Tread/Tread+. Peloton will be a Strategic Partner of NYRR’s through 2025 in the Digital Fitness category, as the brands work together to create motivational fitness content accessible to runners of all abilities. As a new Strategic Partner, Peloton will also activate around the United Airlines NYC Half and the RBC Brooklyn Half.

Peloton also posted an announcement video to Instagram featuring instructors Rad Lopez and Mariana Fernández.

The partnership will include both outdoor audio-only and scenic classes filmed from the marathon course. The outdoor classes are expected to be released towards the end of this year, while the scenic classes will hit Tread devices in early 2024 (as a reminder, the scenic classes will only be available to Tread or Tread+ owners, while the audio classes will be available to anyone with the Peloton app). According to the press release:

With NYRR races continuing to sell out at unprecedented rates and the TCS New York City Marathon being the hottest ticket in town, through this innovative collaboration, NYRR and Peloton will bring the iconic race-course experience to runners everywhere. More than 50,000 runners will take part in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon on November 5, and Peloton will create scenic running content available for consumers featuring Peloton instructors. This programming will live in Peloton’s Scenic content library, incorporating actual course footage – a first for Peloton. Unique features such as auto-incline will further the experience, mimicking the feeling of bridges, for a truly immersive experience.

As part of the partnership, Rad Lopez, Mariana Fernandez, Selena Samuela, Susie Chan, and Jeffrey McEachern will all be running in the NYC marathon this year. Presumably, it will be one (or all?) of those instructors who will be featured in the scenic and audio classes.

Peloton is also holding a contest, starting now, to give away four race entries to Peloton members to race in the upcoming 2023 New York City Marathon. They shared the news via the @OnePeloton Instagram Story with a video that featured instructors Jeffrey McEachern, Selena Samuela, Mariana Fernández, and Susie Chan.

Peloton has also published a new page with additional information and terms. Members must live within the United States and be at least 18 years of age to enter. Those already registered for the 2023 New York City Marathon are not eligible, and all other expenses such as potential travel costs and accessories are not included in the prize.

The winners will not be selected at random; instead, a “panel of judges” will determine the recipients based on the following criteria:

  • (1) Embodiment of the Peloton community and values (50%)
  • (2) Originality (30%)
  • (3) Responsiveness (20%)

Winners can expect to be notified via email after the panel meets on or around October 5.

The New York City Marathon is one of the most popular sporting events in the world, and securing a spot to participate can be extremely difficult. A bib typically costs $295 for non-New York Road Runners (NYRR) members.

The 2023 New York City Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 5. If you’re interested in entering Peloton’s contest, be sure to complete the Google Form by midnight ET on October 3!

We will share updates on Peloton’s New York City Marathon-related outdoor and scenic classes as details become available.
