Peloton continues broadcasting live classes through New York’s Stay At Home Order

One week ago, the governor of New York issued a sweeping stay at home order, that among other things, required that “workers in nonessential businesses to stay home.” At the time, it appeared that meant that Peloton would be forced to stop broadcasting from their NYC Hudson Yard studios. The order went into effect Sunday night, but Peloton has continued to broadcast live classes from New York throughout this week.

There is an exception in the order for news media, although it is unclear how Peloton would be able to classify themselves as news. Alternatively, Peloton could have reached out to local athorities and been granted a waiver to continue working with a skeleton crew. To date however, there has been no official word on the matter. The Verge reported on this issue and was given the following statement from Peloton:

“While we continue to teach a reduced number of live classes from Peloton Studios New York for the time being, like other media companies who are still on air, we are working with a limited team of only essential employees and are operating as a ‘closed set,’”

Peloton appears like they will continue with the current schedule of live classes for the time being. At time of publishing, there are live classes scheduled in every discipline for the next several days (one of the other tweaks recently made was Peloton is temporarily only publishing a few days worth of class schedule, rather than the normal full 2 weeks).

As a reminder, even if the New York Studio is forced to close, Peloton plans to continue loading encore classes to ride, and unless the situation changes in London, is still able to broadcast from London with their UK instructors.
