Matty Maggiacomo leads parody of Broadway’s Sunset Boulevard during Peloton class (taught by Robin Arzon)

This weekend Peloton hosted a Sunset Boulevard Broadway class.

The single class in this Broadway series was a Sunset Boulevard Walk + Run, taught by Robin Arzon. Sunset Boulevard is currently playing on Broadway in NYC until July 20th, when it will close. During the Tony Awards this year, it won numerous awards, such as for Best Revival of a Musical, and Best Performance by an Actress for Nicole Scherzinger.

When the class was announced, it was teased as having “special guests.”

As Robin began the class, she announced that the people running live in studio with her were cast, crew, and ensemble members of Sunset Boulevard. She pointed out that following the 9:30am class, all of them would go on to work & perform in two shows that day – a matinee at 2:00pm then an evening show at 8:00pm.

The playlist featured a selection of songs from the Broadway show. As the class was only 30 minutes long, it featured a sampling of songs from throughout the musical.

Around halfway through the class, Robin discussed how in the show, the second act begins with Tom Francis (who plays Joe Gillis in the show) being shown walking through the backstage areas of the venue, and then making a short walk across the street from the venue & back, joined by other performers in the show.

This segment of the musical shows Tom interacting with other members of the cast, peeking into dressing rooms, before exiting the venue to walk to & from Shubert Alley. This is done for every show – no matter the weather. While Tom is backstage & outside – there are video cameras following him the entire way, so the audience inside the theater is shown this moment of the show from a large screen on stage.

After describing this moment of the show briefly, Robin asks where Matty Maggiacomo is. One might think that as much as he loves Broadway, he would be in the studio, or teaching his own class for the series. The class then cuts from Robin to a pre-recorded segment featuring Matty.

In this pre-recorded segment, Matty does a parody of the Sunset Boulevard walk. The video is shown with a unique camera effect, similar to what is used during the musical. The same song is playing during this segment as would be during the start of Act 2 of the show.

The video shows Matty walking through the halls of Peloton Studios New York. There, he spots Katie Wang in the dressing room, he interrupts Jess King who is recording a class, joins some members getting a photo with an instructor after class, assists Nico Sarani with makeup as she teaches a Yoga class, and more.

Towards the end, he is joined by his fellow Peloton instructors, as well as other Peloton employees, to do a grand entrance into the Tread studio. This is the same way the intro to Act 2 of Sunset Boulevard ends – with the cast joining Tom Francis as he walks back into the venue after doing his walk outside.

However, he is stopped by a PSNY employee, who points out that someone is live in that studio and he isn’t able to enter.

Following this segment, the video cut back to Robin Arzon teaching live – who then coached the rest of the class like normal.

Robin pointed out that there were more than 60 Peloton team members involved in creating or being part of the segment and the class itself, making sure to thank them for their time & energy for making it.

Following the cooldown of the class, there was some credit screens included, that thanked all of the Peloton team by name who helped to create it.

The class this took place in – Robin Arzon’s 30 min Sunset Boulevard Walk + Run – is available on-demand from 6/28/25 @ 9:30am ET.

While it is an unusual occurrence for Peloton to use pre-recorded video segments, or other videos rather than just the instructor coaching live during class – this is not the first time it is happened. For example, there were music videos played in the Lindsey Stirling class with Becs Gentry, the time that Travis Barker of Blink 182 drummed while Kendall Toole taught or the Paramount Holiday Ride where some movie clips were shown.
