Peloton Closes More Showrooms to Start 2025 but Experiments with Different Formats

As 2024 came to a close and 2025 began, Peloton continued its strategic initiative to streamline operations by closing additional showrooms across the United States.

This move is part of an ongoing effort that first began in August of 2022, intended to reduce costs and optimize Peloton’s physical retail footprint.

Over the past several weeks, the following Peloton showrooms have shuttered:

  • Santa Monica (Santa Monica Place), CA
  • San Diego (Westfield UTC), CA
  • Santa Clara (Valley Fair), CA
  • Lone Tree (Park Meadows), CO
  • Dedham (Legacy Place), MA
  • Troy (Somerset), MI
  • Seattle / Bellevue (Bellevue Square), WA

These seven closures are consistent with Peloton’s broader cost-saving strategy over the past 2 years, which has seen the company reassess its retail presence in some markets. In addition to closures, Peloton has also started to explore (and bring back) retail concepts.

One notable example is the re-opening of a micro-store showroom in Nashville, TN, at the Mall at Green Hills. As we shared previously, instead of a full storefront, Peloton introduced what they call a “micro store concept,” which functions as a mall kiosk-style setup. The Nashville micro store stands in stark contrast to Peloton’s former retail spaces, which were typically larger and more immersive. This minimalist approach resembles the company’s early days, such as the small-scale kiosk they once operated in Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and other locations.

Additionally, over the last few months, Peloton relaunched a pop-up showroom in Bondi, Australia. This temporary location comes after the company previously closed all its permanent retail spaces in Australia. The Bondi pop-up gave Peloton the ability to maintain a physical presence and connect with potential members without committing to a long-term retail footprint. However, Peloton has since re-closed this temporary popup.

These experiments suggest that while Peloton may be scaling back its traditional showroom operations, the company may not abandoning physical retail altogether. Instead, it appears to be adopting a more dynamic approach, testing new formats to determine what works best for both the company and its members – both current and prospective.
