Peloton instructor Camila Ramón recently shared that she has been experiencing pain while running, which led her to discover that she has an extra bone in her foot.
Over the weekend Camila took to Instagram to update members about an issue she has been dealing with. She explained that she has been feeling down on herself lately because she had been training for and was scheduled to run a half marathon. However, she began to feel an increasing amount of pain on her ankle and on the inside of her foot.
For this reason she had to drop out of the half marathon and instead went to the doctor, where she learned that she has an additional bone in her foot. Called the accessory navicular bone, it is located on the inner side of the foot just above the arch, and is found in approximately 20% of the population. It can irritate the posterior tibial tendon, causing pain and swelling in that area of the body.

Camila shared that this has led her to manage pain, stress, and distance when it comes to her running regimen. She clarified that she can still run; however, she needs to be careful about the distance and stress she is putting on her foot so as to not exacerbate the pain.
Camila gave her followers an opportunity to ask questions, and one of the questions posed was if this is why Camila has been teaching fewer runs. Camila explained that this issue has not affected her schedule, and any missed Tread classes have been due to travel. She also emphasized that she only teaches on the Tread once per week since cycling is her primary modality.

Another member asked if this would affect Camila’s ability to teach on the Tread. She responded that she has spoken with her doctors and physical therapists about this, all of whom have cleared her to run on the Tread. Her longest runs are a 30 minute duration, and this should be a short enough distance so as not to irritate her foot.

Camila also explained that she will be focusing on what she can do around those runs to support healing, recovery, and preparation; and if she ever needs to change a run to a hike or walk, she knows her team will be supportive of her doing so. However, she does not see this happening in the “foreseeable future.”
We are wishing Camila all the best as she navigates this journey!
