Peloton is rolling out a new feature that will see more German language (and presumably eventually Spanish language) classes get English language subtitles – and see them added at a much faster rate.
While Peloton has had English-language subtitles for their German and Spanish classes, they have historically been very sporadic. Many of the Spanish & German classes never get subtitles, or when they do, can take 2 or more days for them to show up. This means that even people who go out of their way to try to take the Spanish & German language instructors never do, as it has never been consistent for when, or how quickly, subtitles got added.
That appears to be changing as of this week. Peloton is rolling out a new “Auto Subtitle” feature – which is, as the name applies, where Peloton will use computers and/or AI to automatically add subtitles to their German language classes.

This means that as soon as German-languages classes are available in the on-demand library – you can expect to see English language subtitles on the majority of them. As mentioned above, this is much quicker than Peloton has historically added subtitles to their German classes (and in fact, many German classes would never get subtitles before).
Peloton advertises this new feature as allowing them “to deliver subtitles at speed for classes that were not previously subtitled. This enables us to offer more classes to Members which were previously not available in multiple languages.”

The company does note that this technology may not be perfect – and invites members to provide feedback on the feature. They have created a specific email address to provide translation feedback – or suggests using the rating at the end of class.
We’d love to hear your feedback! Write to us to let us know what you think of the subtitled class you took. If you notice an issue with the quality or accuracy of subtitles, you can report it directly to translations@onepeloton.com. Just let us know which class you took and a few details about the problem. While not every issue will be fixed right away, reporting a problem lets our teams know about an issue so that we can work to fix it.
We are also enabling Members to rate the quality of the subtitling to help us deliver the best Member experience. For those taking classes on Bike/Bike+, Tread/Tread+ and Row and using the Peloton App on iOS, at the end of each class, there is a prompt that will appear so that Members can rate the quality of the subtitles.
In order to make sure people know whether the translated subtitles they are seeing have been automatically added or not – there will be a message about that subtitles have been automatically added at the start of the class. This message currently says “[Subtitles are auto-translated]”

At this time, it appears this has only rolled out to the German language classes, and not the Spanish language classes – though one can easily see Peloton expanding this feature down the road to their Spanish language classes as well.
This is the first big change to Peloton’s subtitle features since they added subtitles to live classes in 2021. In 2023, Peloton also began dubbing classes from English into German, and then into Spanish a year later.
What do you think of this new auto-translated subtitle feature on Peloton classes?
