The Original Series Peloton Bike+ Seat Post Is Recalled in US & Canada – Model PL02 (for some serial numbers)

This morning, Peloton and the CPSC have issued a recall notice for the bike post of the original series Peloton Bike+ in the United States. There is also a separate recall issued in Canada. This is being issued for Model PL02 – which is the official model number for the original series Peloton Bike+. This does not impact every device sold – only those with a serial number starting with “T”.

This recall is being done due to issues with the seat post, which can “break during use, posing fall and injury hazards to the user.”

Peloton has begun reaching out to those members who are impacted with emails, and there will also be notifications pushed to the screens of users who are impacted. Those who are impacted can receive a new seat post to install on their device. Peloton does recommend users stop using their devices until they receive a replacement seat post if they are impacted.

If you are impacted you can order a replacement seat post online here, or by calling customer support.

Peloton is not offering any refunds or returns of devices impacted by the seat post recall – the new seat post is all that is being offered.

The replacement seat posts being sent out include design and quality enhancements that were approved by the CPSC. The updated design includes a type of failsafe mechanism, such that if a breakage were to occur, the seat shouldn’t detach from the post, which will help mitigate the risk of injury.

This redesigned seat post was already put into place prior to the Peloton Cross Training Bike+ being sent out – so none of the new Cross Training devices being sold (or sold so far) should be impacted.

There are around 833,000 Original Series Peloton Bike+ sold in the US that are impacted, and 44,800 in Canada. The recall notice specifies this is original series Bike+ devices that have serial numbers starting with the letter “T”. The impacted seat posts were manufactured between December 2019 through July 2022, although units may have been sold as late as April 2025.

Impacted units were sold by Peloton, Amazon, eBay, and DICK’s Sporting Goods. Units sold by Costco were not impacted.

The recall states that there have been 3 reports of seat posts detaching and breaking in the US – with two reports of injuries due to the fall. There have been no reports of issues in Canada to date, but the recall is also being issued there as well proactively.

This is believed to be a similar issue as to what prompted the recall of the original series Peloton Bike (not the Bike+) in 2023, which also saw the seat post being recall due to the seat post breaking. This is not due to the seat post slipping and not staying at the height it was set to – rather, the seat post completely snapping at the weld. You can see images & a report from one of the 2023 Bikes here.

However, at the time the original Bike seat post was recalled, there were no reports of issues with the Bike+, so there was no recall issued for the Bike+ at the time – until now.

When the original Series Peloton Bike was recalled, Peloton ended up seeing more demand than expected for the recall, and there was a backlog & wait time for replacement seat posts to be sent out. It is expected that Peloton has more inventory of updated Bike+ seat posts on hand to meet demand of this recall.
