Peloton Officially Promotes Walkup / Standby List Spots for Peloton Studio In-Person Classes in New York & London

Peloton has officially started promoting its walkup, or standby process, for taking Peloton classes in person at Peloton Studios New York & London, providing clarity on how members can secure a spot even without an advance booking.

Peloton posted a video to Instagram featuring instructor Alex Karwoski explaining the process.

This official standby / walkup process first rolled out this past summer. At the time, Peloton did not promote it themselves, instead relying on instructors sharing the news via social media to get the word out.

This post this week is the first time Peloton is officially spreading the word about it.

The standby system allows members to show up at Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) or Peloton Studios London (PSL) on the day of a class in hopes of filling no-show spots. This offers more flexibility to members who may not have secured a booking online but still want a chance to participate in live studio classes.

As explained in Peloton’s video, members should follow the below steps to take advantage of the standby process:

  • Check-In On-Site: Visit PSNY or PSL on the day of the desired class.
  • Add Your Name: Join the standby list with the studio team.
  • Wait for Availability: If spots open up, they will be offered based on the waitlist order, followed by the standby list.

Peloton also states in the video that you can get on multiple standby lists per day – i.e. you can try for multiple classes this way.

For more details, read our earlier article about the full rollout of the standby process.

Peloton’s recent promotion confirms that priority will be given to members who were already on the waitlist for a class. If a spot becomes available, waitlisted members will be called before anyone who signed up for standby on the day of the class. This clarification will hopefully help manage expectations and ensure fairness in the process. You can find out more on how to get on a waitlist for a Peloton class here.

Note that there is no guarantee of getting a spot by doing this – so members should set their expectations appropriately. You only have the chance at a spot if someone with a confirmed spot does not show up.

This official spotlight marks a more significant effort by Peloton to promote the standby / walkup option.
