Peloton’s incoming CEO Peter Stern recently teamed up with instructor Jess Sims for a lighthearted skit that was not only entertaining, but also provided a glimpse into Stern’s views on leadership and Peloton’s vibrant community.
Jess posted the video to her personal Instagram account, writing:
Look y’all, I just hired our new CEO! @youget2crew approved???
But seriously – this was the first time I met Peter, and his energy and passion for Peloton blew me away. When we were talking about the skit we told him to motivate me to do push ups by saying some inspirational phrases and he said “actually, can I offer to do them with you? Because that’s what I would do as a leader.” Umm YOU’RE HIRED!!! I’m so excited to build with him and the rest of the incredible @onepeloton team and community. So fired up for what’s to come #togetherwegofar
The standout moment of the video is when Jess and Stern do push-ups together, and when Stern took the opportunity to share his perspective on Peloton’s community. He expressed his commitment to not just observing but actively participating alongside Peloton’s members, underscoring his belief that “leaders do things with you” – a sentiment Jess echoed in her description of the post, saying, “That’s what leaders do.”
During the video Stern also provided a bit of context around his background, and how it relates to Peloton. He explained:
“I spent most of my career working in subscriptions, and at the intersection of software, and hardware, and services, and content, and I’m just really privileged to be able to bring that to Peloton.”
Note that the video Jess posted cuts off early because it went past the time limit for her Instagram post.
Peloton first announced Stern as their new CEO last month, and he will officially begin the role on January 1, 2025. Around the time of the announcement Stern revealed that he had recently taken a Tread class at Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) with Kirsten Ferguson.
