New “Official Peloton Teams” Added In Peloton App Led By Instructors

Last week, Peloton launched a new feature: Official Peloton Teams in the Peloton app. This was one of many new features & changes announced last week, alongside refreshed hardware, updated membership pricing, Peloton IQ and more.

Peloton has slowly been trying to increase engagement & community within the Peloton ecosystem, starting with last year’s launch of Teams in the “Community” tab within the Peloton app. The teams feature allows members to create different groups based on leaderboard hashtags and existing member groups: SpeerHeads, KatchKrew, Power Zone Pack, Team Wilpers, and so forth.

Taking that one step further, Peloton has now created “Official Peloton Teams”, which allows Peloton instructors to lead member teams tailored to specific fitness goals and programs.

For example, the HYROX Training Team – led by Robin Arzon, Logan Aldridge, Marcel Dinkins, Ash Pryor, and Marcel Maurer – is designed to guide members interested in HYROX competitions, which have become all the rage as of late. (The HYROX Training Team also is connected to Peloton’s recently announced HYROX partnership.)

There are currently 4 official Peloton teams available. They are:

  • Hyrox Training – Robin Arzon, Logan Aldridge, Marcel Maurer, Marcel Dinkins, Ash Pryor
  • Move For Life – Matt Wilpers
  • Cross Training – Katie Wang, Andy Speer, Kirsten Ferguson, Ash Pryor
  • Menopause Health – Christine D’Ercole, Susie Chan, Joslyn Thompson Rule

More official teams are likely to be added in the future.

With Official Peloton Teams, instructors can post messages, questions, and training tips, as well as interact with team members looking for advice, training tips, or just a high-five for completing a workout. Peloton stated that the Official Peloton Teams will lead to “more expert guidance to help Members stay motivated and committed to their fitness journeys.”

To access Official Peloton Teams, members can tap the “Community” tab in the Peloton app, scroll down past “Your Teams,” where there will be a “Official Peloton Teams” section. There you will see the various instructor-led teams. If you tap on the team name, you will get a description of the team along with the instructors leading the team. To become a team member, simply tap the “Join” button at the bottom of the screen.

Once you join, you will see two content areas:

  • Highlights, which contains the team challenges and team member weekly stats
  • Feed, which serves as the team chat area

At present, only the instructors and Peloton Studios (an owner for every Official Peloton Team) can post discussion prompts in the team feed. Peloton members can then respond to those prompts via comments or selected reactions. That is a key difference from the “non-official” Teams, which allow any Peloton member who has joined the team to begin conversations.

Last Tuesday, when this was announced, was one of the most news filled days in company history . The company rolled out its long-rumored upgraded hardware, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence integration. Among other things, new equipment purchasers can now take full advantage of Peloton IQ, with cross-training features such as self-paced classes, rep counting, and tailored form feedback, the latter two first introduced in the Peloton Guide. (Owners of previous equipment iterations will also have some Peloton IQ features available to them – the ones that don’t require the upgraded camera). The user interface also has received a refresh across the entire platform and likely will see additional refinements based on user feedback. You can see all the news, features, and updates announced last week here.

Now with the introduction of Official Peloton Teams, Peloton members will have yet another way to share their fitness goals not only with each other, but also with some of their favorite instructors.
