Peloton begins emailing members video clips of their shoutouts from class: “You Received A Shoutout”

Peloton has begun implementing a small new feature.

Now, if you receive a shoutout during class for a milestone, birthday, or just a random mention – you may receive an email after class containing a video snippet of that moment from class.

This feature seems to have begun rolling out in the last day or two. The email is not immediate and takes a few hours to arrive.

We have not yet received any reports of people who have gotten video clips emailed to them from shoutouts during pre-show – so this feature may only work on the shoutouts that happen during the main part of class. If this changes, we will be sure to provide an update.

Note that this feature may be completely controlled by AI without human oversight. This means that if the instructor calls out a name like “Bruce With 4 Es” instead of “BrucEEEE” – the system may not be able to match it to your leaderboard name, and you won’t get a video clip emailed to you.

Of course, just because you don’t receive an email with your clip, doesn’t mean you still can’t create the clip yourself. This is what Peloton members have been doing for years now – going back and grabbing clips of their shoutouts to share on social media by re-recording the class once it is complete.

With this new feature, Peloton hopes to make that easier for the members. And, by having more members sharing clips on social media, they are likely hoping that more people get curious about what Peloton is, and try it out for themselves.

The email members have received has the subject line of “#LeaderboardName, you received a shoutout”

It goes on to explain what the email is about, saying.

Hey #LeaderboardName, we see you crushing the fitness game. All that hard work deserves to be celebrated. Click below to view your instructor shoutout.

There are then two links in the email to view and/or download the clip.

The email goes on to ask that members include the tag “#PelotonShoutouts” when they share the clip to social media.

You’ll have 30 days from when you receive the email to download the clip – after which point it will no longer be on Peloton’s servers.

The clips will be relatively short: Examples we have seen have ranged from 10-20 seconds. It should contain just before, and just after your shoutout – as well as whenever you were mentioned in class.

You can see a sample clip below – but this is the same 10 seconds or so you would see if you had taken the class live, or at any point on-demand.
